Why is casual racism/sexism more accepted in video games than other forms of media (these days)?

i think someone very bright could write a very interesting piece about the history of gaming as it intertwines w/ (as well as subverts) neoliberalism + consumerism. i envision something like Attali's Noise but for games instead of music.

I find it kind of humorous (tinged with sadness) that someone paid AEI to make that.

In Japan, the number of female gamers is rapidly increasing. And as a result there are more and more games being made specifically for the female gamer market. Some have a very exaggerated 'cuteness' than seems to be deliberately 'non-sexual'. Others have suggestive sexual content but with the gender roles reversed. There are also many games featuring homosexual male characters but they are clearly aimed at female gamers.

Yeah, that's true. There's a very big overlap between the manga/anime audience and the video game audience.

Multimedia franchises - play the game, read the comic, watch the anime, buy the soundtrack, buy the figures/merchandise, play the pachinko machine, read the light novel, watch the movie etc.

That's really depressing. The comments are really depressing. The only hope I can draw from this is that the men behind it are so noxious and emotionally stunted they will never get to multiply.

The subject of this article has actually been going out of her way to berate, provoke and insult gamers for years. Calling them things like nerds, losers etc and how they "take their hobby way too seriously".
