Why is casual racism/sexism more accepted in video games than other forms of media (these days)?

cld def see bad publicity resulting in some of the more grotesque violent/misogynistic aspects of games being curbed, like a company might think twice before releasing a game where you can patronize a prostitute then steal the money back and kill her if other games received media blowback for similar things, and that would exactly represent an impingement on gamergates vision of artistic freedom

lag∞n, Monday, 20 October 2014 16:14 (eleven years ago)

xp

you'd think they could have folded that into the 50-page thread

>I hope some of these fucks start going to jail tbh.

i'm wondering this – what happened with the death threats? this lot doesn't strike me as being smart enough to cover their tracks.

An amusing side-effect is that somebody come up with a Chrome extension that replaces every instance of SJW with skeleton

Presumably those targeted are not saying much under the advice of counsel/law enforcement. Online death threats are a good way to get the FBI knocking at your door though.

Spirit of Match Game '76 (silby), Monday, 20 October 2014 16:47 (eleven years ago)

yeah really not smart

lag∞n, Monday, 20 October 2014 17:08 (eleven years ago)

i honestly think a lot of this is going to melt away as soon as the first gg warrior is dragged out of his basement and into police custody. i am assuming that most of the guys who would threaten anti-gg voices are actually just cowards hiding behind their veil of anonymity and are not actually capable of the violence they claim. that's just conjecture though and i sincerely hope law enforcement is taking all such threats seriously

i'd rather be arrested by you folks than by anybody i know (art), Monday, 20 October 2014 17:19 (eleven years ago)

as soon as the first gg warrior is dragged out of his basement and into police custody.

i think this might shrink it but would intensify it, which is worse.

goole, Monday, 20 October 2014 17:21 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, dudes getting arrested tends to intensify and reinforce persecution complexes

Delbert Gravy (kingfish), Monday, 20 October 2014 17:27 (eleven years ago)

yeah think a lot of these guys would love to add noble rebellion against a tyrannical (but emasculated) state to the list of awesome narratives they think they're irl enacting

Blogger with a history writing about Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire suddenly takes on an "edgy" hit piece promoting anti-male narratives
Low-hanging tech writer makes a sudden switch into an anti-male narrative
General tech writer wtih no serious history of anti-male hatred, but is happily towing the line today
Opportunist who wants the world to have more females in tech, but can't seem to hire one for his top editor staff.

When 113 writers from over 100 different blogs all reference the same person within the same extremely narrow time frame? I'd call that damn good circumstantial evidence of collusion.

107 articles, in which Joseph Bernstein is mentioned 91 times between then.

Obviously, he's a hub of distribution. So, start pulling BuzzFeed's ad revenue.

one of my favorite things about them is their casual planning of unrealistic retribution, theres one upthread where they scheme to crash gawkers stock price (not a public company btw) asking if anyone knows someone on wall street who can make it happen, like they assign to themselves incredible powers of conspiracy too
