It really is the most astonishing rushing towards the image of gamers as people who have ~issues with a sense of humour~. Which is kind of the essence of conspiracy theory, that nothing The Accused ever says can have a light or joking meaning, it is all Evidence.

totalbiscuit, who has been pretty visible on the gg thing i suppose, is the archetype of the essentially-conservative brit gamer youtube celeb who is basically attempting to be a bad xerox of jeremy clarkson. i can't stand him, and he sounds like he must be an awful person to be in a room with.

as someone who seldom watches the big gamer youtubes I'd been cheerily imagining GG was mostly not British because uh tea-party crossover I guess. when I do watch gaming youtubes they're mainly randomly selected retro-ish Let's Plays and I never have any idea whether the player is a ~noted figure~ in the gaming youtube world or just some guy

so I was surprised to hear S4rg0n's unedited interview he did w/the BBC: he had an accent and arguing technique* I can only describe as "public school debating society", which combined with reading the GG manifesto thing upthread ("we are just some poor maligned gamers being even-handedly inclusive of oppressed minorities such as men and big-budget 3D shooty games and defending our basic human right never to be reminded of the existence of any other sort of gamer or game") to make me very angry until this thread restored the lols

* harping on abt one question-avoiding point for 15 minutes, in this case GG's charming new tactic of "GG is about ethics in games journalism, therefore any attacks on people who aren't games journalists are by definition nothing to do with GG". the Beeb interviewer came across pretty badly too: mumbly and unprepared. the whole thing is really painful and I do not recommend anyone seek it out, unless maybe you have dangerously low blood pressure, in which case drinking a gallon of salty coffee might be a better option
