i'm sort of obsessed with this FAQ about the virtua fighter 2 soundtrack i found on a 15 yr old tripod page
MY OPINION ABOUT THIS CDBasically, I think this is a great CD and a must buy for people who are
really
into VF. I, certainly, am glad I purchased this despite the high cost of
doing so. The downside to the music is that much of it is just not as
original as the VF1 BGM. In the original, each of the character's tunes were
quite distinct and gave each character his/her own very distinct personality.
In VF2, many of the tracks (not all, however) are a bit more similar to each
other, and they do not portray the characters as well. Despite this, I do
find myself listening to the VF2 CD a lot.
Of all the character tracks on the CD, I find myself enjoying Lau, Shun, and
Jacky's the most. Lau's for the "catchyness," Shun's for the originality and
spirit, and my liking of the Jacky theme is due to its reminiscent qualities
of the VF1 Jacky's "upbeatness." Although there certainly isn't any
particularly bad tracks, there exists a few themes that seem to have gone
downhill from VF1 (Kage and Wolf come to mind). The rest of the character
tracks are for the most part, unremarkable.
Main title music is nice and fitting for the attract mode demo. Character
select should have been given greater emphasis. Dural is good, and then of
course there's the end/bonus tunes which are all mighty fine.
Well, that's about it. If you wish for some information about any of the
other vidgame music CDs I have (currently: VF1, VF2, SS, D/USA, & Front
Mission), please ask.
