Tim is on the mend from the ‘vid and the patreon is live
HELLO! i have a patreon: one huge, monthly, hour-long, meticulous, unconventional video review of a game i love. i have 37 videos in the planning stages already. https://t.co/JvTEJSALnx— tim rogers (@108) April 8, 2020
― silby, Wednesday, 8 April 2020 19:42 (four years ago) link
sure why not
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 8 April 2020 20:02 (four years ago) link
Daddy needs medicine!
― silby, Wednesday, 8 April 2020 20:03 (four years ago) link
i googled tim rogers patreon to grab the link, and saw this tweet, which confused me because i forgot we're in 2020 and jsut saw "current month, current year"
(hang on a second: no, i am NOT making a patreon. i get paid a salary, everybody. and no, i am not going to stream "on the weekend." weekends are for walking around manhattan, watching the @criterionchannl, eating pizza, and reading books)— tim rogers (@108) April 13, 2019

omg and the patreon link is in the tweet you posted. i am just crushing it on the internet today. absolutely smashing it

once he gets this running, i am down to pay

same

He’s got nerve surgery to pay for! Also he’ll be steaming FF7R all day Friday.
― silby, Thursday, 9 April 2020 00:55 (four years ago) link
I'm of course on board. Joined at the mysterious $5 tier.
― may the force leave us alone (zchyrs), Thursday, 9 April 2020 15:04 (four years ago) link
he's up to $6000 a month, he deserves it all and more!
― silby, Thursday, 9 April 2020 15:06 (four years ago) link
whoa, really? i'm not sure i've seen a patreon go that high, wow! he does deserve it. he was the last good thing remaining at kotaku, which he almost singlehandedly kept afloat the last year or so
― let me be your friend on the other end! (Karl Malone), Thursday, 9 April 2020 15:08 (four years ago) link
WHY DID YOU LEAVE KOTAKU?I found myself suddenly surrounded by numerous offers and opportunities to get paid more by doing less work to produce better content, while also reaching a wider audience. Ain't that the dream? Also, I want to be able to focus on our (Action Button Entertainment's) game TRUCK HECK more. Also, the CEO was an idiot.

dope but i think i will wait until after i've played the game to watch 3 hours of tim rogers about it
― ciderpress, Monday, 25 May 2020 20:00 (four years ago) link
gonna do the opposite
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 25 May 2020 20:58 (four years ago) link
i don't think i'll ever play the real games. so i'm looking forward to experiencing the remake series through tim rogers
― Karl Malone, Monday, 25 May 2020 23:06 (four years ago) link
whew, that first hour is fun but exhausting

as someone who has never played ffvii and has no intention of playing ffvii or the remake this was amazing. only trouble is that i couldn't help reading everything in tim's voice for the rest of the day
― devvvine, Wednesday, 27 May 2020 09:11 (four years ago) link
"what a philosophical nightmare"
― devvvine, Wednesday, 27 May 2020 09:15 (four years ago) link
I've also never played FFVII outside of the demo, and probably never will play it, but I find it very fascinating as a pop-cultural relic, so this was worth watching for me. I'll probably avoid his video on TLoU until I've actually played that, though.
― american primitive stylophone (zchyrs), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 15:57 (four years ago) link
two hours into this it has mostly convinced me i shouldn't play it. Good review! Saved me a lot of time!
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 17:14 (four years ago) link
this was fine. i mean i watched three hours without being bored. but i wasn’t at any point wowed enough by anywhere he went with it that i felt, afterwards, it had been a sound investment of my time. which i suspect is how i would feel if i got the ffvii remake so i guess it fits

INSERT CREDIT PODCAST is happening again btw and i kind of prefer his snide persona to his earnest persona so I’ve been digging that a lot

my girlfriend accused me of doing this. i was totally unconscious of it.

i found this entertaining and it offered a lot more info about the games he's worked on than i'd picked up from his videos

i ran out of my crohn's disease medication a couple weeks back. coincidentally, i now know what the symptoms of crohn's disease feel like. also, i am experiencing an outbreak of shingles. i spent all day on the phone today, and learned i can't get health insurance until 2021.— tim rogers (@108) July 22, 2020

alright, i just got through the first chapter of Doom and fuck, it's PROUSTIAN

i spent ten minutes explaining to my gf who this guy was before i hit play (there was a considerable digression about patreon) and got her to agree to try this video to see if she could see what I liked about him. she couldn't even make it past the list of releases.
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 14 September 2020 02:27 (four years ago) link
Your GF is a champ for sticking it out that far, dude is definitely an acquired taste. I daresay this is the best thing he's done yet. I'm amazed at how many times he cuts away to that Romero/Carmack photo and it is equally hilarious every time. Also amazed at how he seems to be aging in reverse.

the doom video is fucking great; it really is like six separate long form video essays and they're all interesting and pretty funny.
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 20:48 (four years ago) link
in the video he says he got COVID twice??
― unpaid intern at the darvo institute (Simon H.), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 21:24 (four years ago) link
I also was not aware that he had some form of the Marilu Henner memory thing, but that sure explains how he was able to remember all of his play through in such detail.

If anyone wants to read the FFVI essay he mentions in the ULTRA-VIOLENCE section, it's here: http://www.actionbutton.net/?p=3272

yes i do, thank you! i didn't realize he was publishing new action button (written) reviews, last year
― Karl Malone, Thursday, 17 September 2020 17:15 (four years ago) link
i really enjoyed that essay. there's a reveal about halfway through that made me actually say holy shit
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 17 September 2020 17:28 (four years ago) link
i'd read tim's auto-fictional epic
oh yeah i think that FF6 essay was partially incorporated into his 1994 review video
