i always think "l.a. noire is supposed to good, right?" before remembering that i'm primarily thinking about tim rogers raves throughout the years
― Karl Malone, Friday, 8 January 2021 02:41 (three years ago) link
The one risk with Tim Rogers is he likes a lot of stuff, including NASCAR t-shirts, Conan novels, direct to video martial arts movies…

It’s inspiring to me to learn from someone with the openheartedness to enjoy so much.

i like to let him convince me that something is amazing and then give it a shot, it's fun
― Karl Malone, Friday, 8 January 2021 02:49 (three years ago) link
i am an avowed I LOVE EVERYTHING guy but LA Noire is not a fun game. It's Heavy Rain.

Tim is the american bradass of videogames
― kniphofia face (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 8 January 2021 03:39 (three years ago) link
LA Noire's game mechanic was annoying, you had 3 options when questioning a suspect, forget the terminology but essentially you could believe them, challenge them with proof of their dishonesty, or doubt them without proof. The distinction between the latter two options was close to utterly arbitrary and annoying as hell. The acting, storyline, and writing were all pretty good as far as games go
― Fenners' Pen (jim in vancouver), Friday, 8 January 2021 07:37 (three years ago) link
the one time I bought into tim rogers' contrarian hyping the game was pish
― marg bar āmrikā (||||||||), Friday, 8 January 2021 09:11 (three years ago) link
there were definitely things about la noire i liked, in spite of the bad parts, im curious to see him talk abt it for a long time bc he might cover some of those things
like if they removed all of the "game" from it and made it a drive around 1920s simulator i'd maybe love it even more?!
― Kompakt Total Landscaping (Will M.), Friday, 8 January 2021 20:25 (three years ago) link
In the context of this TM video at least, he seemed to be championing the interrogation gameplay.
― kniphofia face (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 8 January 2021 21:23 (three years ago) link
don't think he hypes up games he loves to convince other people to actually play them, usually

― kniphofia face (Sufjan Grafton), Saturday, 9 January 2021 03:33 (three years ago) link
When you're doing the part of the game that isn't interrogating people it's pretty stale
But it's a great game world for the era. Really cool version of classic LA

Looking forward to the review of baseball
baseball rules in part because every turn contains a massively dreadful opportunity for infinity. baked right into the design are questions whose answers involve "idk man somebody's arms'll fall off first". anyway please anticipate my review of BASEBALL, coming 2025-ish https://t.co/GE8LZxUKiY— tim rogers (@108) March 14, 2021

honestly, this would be the ultimate tim rogers review for me
― Zach_TBD (Karl Malone), Monday, 15 March 2021 04:13 (three years ago) link
I have zero interest in baseball, but I'm sure he'd make it compelling. And then I might come away with *a little* interest in baseball.
― american primitive stylophone (zchyrs), Wednesday, 17 March 2021 23:08 (three years ago) link
i would like to make a 3 hour tim rogers-style parody video, raving about baseball. then convince some of you to join me to watch a game, only to watch that you absolutely hate it, still (my experience with yakuza)

Finally going through Pac Man a segment at a time, it's excellent.

Love to hear his disturbingly specific memories of his early '80s childhood renting NES games from the video store, very resonant for me
― change display name (Jordan), Thursday, 8 April 2021 20:16 (three years ago) link
He has beyond photographic memory, he said something like "I remember everything that's ever happened to me and I hate it"
― lukas, Thursday, 8 April 2021 21:35 (three years ago) link
theres a vid where he describes the first hour or so of link's awakening screen by screen from memory

I assume everyone who's ever written a memoir has that strong of a memory, if I wrote a memoir it'd be all "I suppose I went to school…I had some birthday parties…"

go through this thread if you like tim rogers
i made a massive patreon post about this, so here's the tiny twitter version: the cyberpunk video is REAL GOOD (and huge). it's gonna take another month. it's the best thing i've ever made, so please wait a little longer so i can finesse it! expect it week one of august. pic.twitter.com/RYUJc8VIqX— tim rogers (@108) July 6, 2021

"i played 110 video games total for this review" lol
glad to hear the 'season 2' reviews are going to be shorter, i still much prefer his old 20-40 min kotaku videos to the new 3 hour format. 20 mins is still a lot of content!
― ciderpress, Thursday, 8 July 2021 23:26 (three years ago) link
Yeah, all of that seems like good news!

about season 2 and that he has finally forced himself to only work 40 hour weeks but also for whatever the hell this cyberpunk review will be
― Clara Lemlich stan account (silby), Friday, 9 July 2021 00:16 (three years ago) link
ciderpress I hear u and you're right but also the tokimemo review was worth every stinking minute
also i'm sure shorter videos still means like an hour long at this point

yeah

New episode 10/10 at 10. So this is gonna be 10 hours, huh
next sunday is october tenth. i don't care if you're from the united states OR kingdom: that is the best possible day for me, a Video Game Critiquer, to release a hideously massive video review of @CyberpunkGame. i will take no further questions. sunday 10/10, 10am eastern. pic.twitter.com/UqxmtIEKGv— tim rogers (@108) October 1, 2021

per patreon - tomorrow, 6pm eastern, opening segment on twitch.tv/actionbutton and once that's done airing (including a twist?!), the entirety of it goes up on the YT. sounds like it's split into two vids due to processing issues. but i think it's really real this time!
― Kompakt Total Landscaping (Will M.), Monday, 25 October 2021 22:17 (three years ago) link
i hope the twist is that he decided to review a different game
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:19 (three years ago) link
