Doesn't seem to be a thread for this, but a fair few of my friends have been talking about this. Thoughts? I think it seems terrible TBH, but I haven't played it, so...

every year around this time some soulless looking open world crafting/survival game gets really popular for a bit while there's no major releases, this just seems like that again but with monster catching added this time

Yeah honestly I, uh. How many of the copies bought are people just going "Well shit they're gonna take _this_ off the store damn quick"? It just bugs me because there are Pokemon inspired games on Steam that are actually, like, original and good? Like Cassette Beasts? Or hell, even ones that _aren't_ necessarily original but are still good, like Coromon.
I guess the Pokemon in those games don't have guns and won't try to shoot you or put _you_ in poke ball or, like. Have sex with you.
I mean I think this Steam review captures the essential appeal of the game:
Beat them up, enslave them, starve them, force them to breed, and then eat them when they get out of line.
Look. If you're a furry with an enslavement, breeding, and cannibalism kink, I don't think that's anything to be ashamed of. There are just more ethical ways to get those kinks met than _this_, though. I mean, really.

Watched it briefly the other day, yeah looks like a garbage run of the mill crafting game. I am in the conspiracy tent of thinking that twitch streamers have got together with the devs and hype this up, because I can' for the life of me see why anybody would want to play it.

Played it for 45 minutes, remembered I hate survival games, instantly deleted it.

...writing fan fiction?― Nhex
Sure, or just making up your own characters, doing ERP, turning that into fiction. I've seen some really creative and well-written stuff come from that approach.
My experience is that kink isn't just "sex for nerds", it's a really powerful way of processing trauma for a lot of folks (including me). It's not necessarily the case, mind. There's ways to deal with that stuff that are more likely to be healing and ways that are more likely to perpetuate the cycle of abuse. From what I can tell Palworld tends to veer a lot closer to the latter. :(
