i haven't been much of a "gamer" since the 90s since I don't hate women
BUT i have dabbled in every other nintendo system (N64, but no gamecube; wii, but no wii u), have played two Mac games (riven, gone home) since the turn of the millennium, and have an iphone where I usually have one or two play games for subway or bedtime goofing off (right now: bad piggies)
I don't like stuff that requires a lot of ambidextrous skills (like shooters — I bought Goldeneye for Wii and played it once) and only like games that you can play with the sound off because I basically see them as a place to put my brain and hands while I listen to music. I like mario 64 and mario galaxy and zelda games and animal crossing. gone home was fun. i really enjoyed the neverhood when it was poppin.
Are there any cool non-neckbeard games to recommend a whiney?

i think you should try binding of isaac which is kinda like zelda
― Mordy, Saturday, 22 November 2014 18:05 (ten years ago) link
it's gross tho, i know you're picky about aesthetics so maybe check out some screenshots first and see if u like it. if u can handle it i think it's a really fun game.

What's your preferred platform(s)? desktop/console/laptop/phone? What venue do you want to plays games on? E.g. some mobile games are great for futzing around with in line, some are better on planes/trains

Whiney: Dust City is fucking great
so is Tower of the Blood Lord, which you play in-browser

cave story might be up yr alley? it's modeled after old-school 16bit platformers but has really smooth physics and great world and character design. the only drawback for me is that it's too short.

If you played Gone Home with the sound off you shd give it another run through with the sound on b/c you missed most of it

Tower of the Blood Lord is by Michael Lutz, who did The Uncle Who Works for Nintendo, which I also enjoyed. One of the better twine/twine-esque creators.
Oh, the Uncle... says it makes extensive use of sound but I played it muted and still found it effective.

Kinda forgotten by time due to several other """more important""" platformers (braid, fez, limbo, &c&c&c) but I think you & virtually everyone would have fun playing Splosion Man. Goofy platformer with fun mechanics. Haven't played the sequel tho.

Definitely Katamari Damacy. My first time playing that was sort of a revelation, it felt like the first new videogame control scheme since Super Mario Bros. It's just so much FUN to roll that ball around and collect stuff, and it's got this great mash up of surreal/humor/horror/Zen/monster movie feel to it. Controls are SUPER easy.

There's a Room 3? Hooray!
We’re recommending an iPad 3 or iPhone 5 or better for The Room Three, because we’ve had a few issues reported on the iPad 2 and 4S.
Boo!
― ledge, Sunday, 29 November 2015 08:31 (nine years ago) link
The Room 3 was fun but it had no plot of interest. The final ending is a big "fuck you" to anyone looking for a deeper meaning -- spoilers, the face on mars turns out to be a building with another face on it.

I don't go to puzzle games for the plot tbh.
― ledge, Sunday, 29 November 2015 15:01 (nine years ago) link
I would be fine with The Room 1-3 without any plot. It's that they try to shoehorn in a plot and it's a waste of time.
