Coint and Plick 2015 - Nomination Thread (Closing Feb. 2)

HI EVERYONE! I'm going to run this Coint and Plick joint for the best games of the last calendar year, because forks has been doing it way too long and the guy DESERVES A GEE DEE BREAK ALREADY. Most of this is copy/pasted from his previous year's explanation (with minor additions/edits/changes by me).

As always, we're looking for games released in 2014; start adding your games for consideration here now. Please note the game AND the system it was released on like so:

WWE Supercard - Mobile
Shadow of Mordor - PC/XONE/PS4/360/PS3

Console, PC/Mac, online only games, art games, MMORPGs, video game versions of card and party games, social network games and cellphone games are all entirely valid choices as long as they were versions released and/or maintained with updated material in '14. I will also accept any game that has been re-released this year in a new format/console, any game that is in a continuous state of change (basically MMORPGs) or downloadable content for a game made prior to 2013. That means World of Warcraft and any classic NES games released as Wiiware or iOS remakes are legit picks. Here's the catch though: I do ask that you keep in the spirit of the thing and only vote for reissues/new content/ongoing games if you played them THIS YEAR and (when applicable) only on the new system in question.

Things that shouldn't even be considered: board games, competitive card games, puzzles, tabletop rpgs, online fantasy sports, etc. Good rule of thumb is that if it can only be played on a screen, it's valid.

If you're listing an obscure import-only title, flash game, social network, art jam product, indie or lesser known game or basically anything on a phone, please include a URL for the game's fan/homepage/itunes/google store and (if possible) a screenshot or two for the listing so I can figure out what you're raving about and note appropriately.

Also, there's a LONG LEAD this year because I want to give ILX plenty of time to rep their nominations. PLEASE DO THAT OVER HERE. Let's keep this thread relatively tidy.

i'll probably dump a bunch of noms in here soon for games that people may have forgotten were in 2014, whether i played them or not.

It's fair - games like MPQ/P&D get significant updates on a weekly basis, it's not different than votes for ongoing MMOs/yearly expansions of such.
Also yeah, I'll be surprised Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2 etc. don't end up getting voted for, though I don't own a Wii.
Not to mention a ton of 3DS games as well: Smash Bros, Bravely Default, Weapon Shop de Omasse, Phoenix Wright vs. Layton, Yoshi's New Island, Fantasy Life, Tomodachi Life, Theatrhythm Curtain Call, Azure Strike/Mighty Gunvolt, , some others I'm definitely forgetting.... haha I am "playing" clicker heroes today and yesterday b/c I am working on a crazy deadline and I need something to look at for 30 seconds now and then, to give a better sense of "progress" than I can get from 30 seconds of real work. & then it's back to the grind. i'd do the first one. the second one is enjoyable for the way it expands on the mythology of the first game, but the gameplay is harder and more annoying.

I downloaded Secret Habitat from that RPS list over the weekend. Definitely recommend it for a quick test drive ... sort of reminded me of the Bubsy 3D James Turrell Experience, but not jokey at all. Procedurally generated paintings!

i played so, so much of the beta when i should have been writing essays. i didn't realise it had come out for real though.

I wouldn't consider Mini Metro "out". You can pay "early access" for it (I did) but Disasterpeace (did music for FEZ) is doing music/sound engineering for this game and I'm so stoked to play with sound.

Which is to say if I were a reviewer or something I wouldn't review it until the sound was done.

the updates aren't significant enough imo

New characters and missions in a game that is essentially the exact same in all other ways doesn't really feel liek a significant change... besides do we really need it to be the top game of 2014 and 2015?

We've had games win and place the next year i think. usually on a new format, or because of major new content.
