a lot of you know what i did for a living, but i tried to keep a pretty low profile on ILG
but yeah...16 years as a journalist in the business, now i'm leaving

feels like it's time, it's felt like a party i lingered at too long for the past couple years, #gg didn't help either

but yeah i don't know i feel like the era in which i fell in love with games and the era i covered has come to an end

that said, i do think there's a lot of good things coming, from indie games and what's going to happen in a couple years of having free unreal engine tools, continued unity support out there...but i'm a dinosaur in some respects, a product of the Grand PlayStation Era, the Roman likes of which the industry will never see again, I can't believe it all really looking back

tried to write about it....

droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 24 April 2015 20:01 (ten years ago)

do you remember, many many many years ago, listing "ILM" in one of those miniature editor profiles y'all used to have on the masthead? for whatever weird reason i remember very clearly seeing that, putting two and two together, and marveling at the big/small nature of the world.

adam, Friday, 24 April 2015 20:02 (ten years ago)

good for you for making the change! what's the new gig?

lil urbane (Jordan), Friday, 24 April 2015 20:03 (ten years ago)

Who M the best? (Will M.), Monday, 27 April 2015 15:36 (ten years ago)

Sixteen years. That's the amount of time that passed between Elvis Presley's first single and the breakup of the Beatles. Looking back, I can say with confidence that the years I covered video games as a journalist were no less transformative and important than those years were to music.

one for the truth bomb thread for sure

good luck matt - always enjoyed reading your game informer stuff online.

congrats, ums. how do you think you'll spend your gaming time now that it isn't your job? is there a kind of game you played for work that you'll be cutting out of your life now that you're free?

polyphonic, Monday, 27 April 2015 17:42 (ten years ago)

Good luck

Doktor Van Peebles (kingfish), Monday, 27 April 2015 22:08 (ten years ago)

Premise ridiculous. Who have two potato? (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 14:54 (ten years ago)

Thanks all! New job is pretty cool, a little overwhelming, feel like I'm playing dress up in someone else's life. But yeah I am kind if excited to just buy some have l game I don't know anything about on xbl or steam. And just enjoy it without feeling obligated to have an opinion about it or take notes

kurt kobaïan (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 30 April 2015 01:21 (ten years ago)

sony has a sale on some gloriously awful games right now that you can play and enjoy without needing to be critical of them, that will probably be just the best feeling

Who M the best? (Will M.), Thursday, 30 April 2015 14:40 (ten years ago)
