It's that time of the year again. Microsoft & Sony are heavily rumored to be revealing their mid-gen upgraded consoles. Japanese companies seem to be pulling back further with neither Square Enix or Nintendo having dedicated shows this time. What are your hopes, dreams, fears?

Announced already: Final Fantasy 12 PS4 port in 2017, Horizon Zero Dawn & Yooka-Laylee both delayed to 2017

an early glimpse of Destiny 2 showing that it'll actually be a current gen game and learning all the lessons from painful first game would be a pretty amazing surprise, but unlikely.

Bloodborne 2 - but that won't be happening.

Persona 5 western date would be nice.

FF12 and 2 are the only non-MMO ones that I haven't played (although I seem to remember a lot of people calling FF12 a single player MMO?) I guess I'll give it a go when it's on sale at some point.
Persona 5 not coming to US until Feb 2017 and no date for EU, which is not surprising as Atlus managed to piss off their latest EU publishing partner NISA who have cut all ties.

I'd buy a Skyrim remaster. Heck, I'd preorder a Skyrim remaster. Only reason I've kept my PS3.

Does 'remaster' also mean 'fixing game-breaking glitches that were never patched in the PS3 version'?

a friend of mine works for nintendo pr and she told me they basically have jack shit lined up for e3 except for maybe a new zelda?

yeah that's been their story for a while, since they straight up said no NX news for this event

If the Skyrim remaster is running on the Fallout 4 engine then chances are it'll be more buggy than the original.

And it still won't look as good as a fully modded PC version.

i guess they could add mod capability to consoles like they did w/ fo4. but i already did skryim to death on prev gen. unless they offer something dramatically different or overhauled, i don't see the point of it other than the rerelease cash grab

Even though I buy jack shit games these days (and spend all my time on either emulators, minecraft or farming) I'll still be looking forward to watching this.

is that the 3rd or 4th year Cuphead has been in an upcoming games trailer? Announcing a smaller version of your console and then saying "oh and by the way guys a massively upgraded console is coming in 18 months" seems a bit odd.

based on the trailer kinda feels like its intentionally going for a empty/'lonely' open world feel e.g. shadow of the colossus

nintendo are several years late to the party on this genre though, so im interested to see if this brings anything new to the open-world table gameplay-wise or if they're just banking on their environmental design and nintendo-polish to carry the game

Anyone watching this? This Zelda feels like Minecraft, and the world building is great in the way it implies a history in the set pieces (from what we're shown so far).

I wonder when they'll reveal the titular breath mechanic.

my guess is they'll be more or less the same other than the control scheme, much like how twilight princess was released on both gamecube and wii

but obviously the new console will have better hardware so maybe it'll look a bit better on it too

Too bad SONY turned Kratos into a spiritual pansy! Another reason they couldn't call it God of War 4..........because it doesn't even feel like a God of War game at all.

I always get bemused when gamers get really angry that a longstanding voice actor gets replaced, like now a different terrible wooden VA is going to woodenly read the shitty dialogue for your favourite 1-dimensional killbot video game character, oh no

Does that happen that often? The people who did the Metal Gear Solid series is the only game I'm aware of having a cast fans are attached to.
There was the voice recasting in the Silent Hill 2 remaster but that was a shitty thing to do to a classic game. Very different case.

This terrible style of drama in games has been common since the late 90s but now it's in so much more. I'm not even sure the voice actors are at fault most of the time.

Not really, he didn't do Arkham Origins but that was separate dev team, he's in all the Rocksteady games.

I thought they lost Mark Hamill because he just quit being the Joker in toto, but that's him in Arkham Knight (and lots since).

xp yeah that turned out to be a lie since he's doing the The Killing Joke adaptation as well

Hamill must be a genuinely daunting act to follow. I'm not into many voice actors but his Joker is incredible. Would be funny if the next Joker was more like the really old Batman cartoons.
Maybe Hamill's Joker will be one of these voices that everyone after does their best copy of.

That's basically what Troy Baker did for Arkham Origins, he did a decent job. But yeah, most of them just can't compare.
There was one really bad one I remember, that Rasta Joker from a short-lived animated series about ten years ago.

Yeah, that scripted dialog in the otherwise cool-looking Ghost Recon game had me rmde hard.

I remember the same shit with the Division's scripted stage demo.
