Xbox Game Pass (and Netflix style subscription services for games generally)

I have to say that the Game Pass has meant I play a lot more games and am more adventurous about what I'll try. Anyone else using it? How do we feel about even having a "netflix for games" anyway? (Also happy to get recommendations on what game pass titles I should spend time on)

I signed up to try it when I bought a second hand Xbox One in February. There are loads of games worth trying on it but the things I've spent the most time playing are a golf game, the Halo remaster and Nier Automata (which is a weird game and I don't know if I actually like it).
It also reminded me why I don't like playing console versions of Minecraft.

I've played some Nier Automata. It is weird and I'm stuck on a hard boss at the moment, but I like that you can go bang bang and slash slash simultaneously.

I subscribed to PS+ purely so my son could play Minecraft with a friend who has a Switch - I haven't taken advantage of any of the free stuff or discounts.

I'm the quintessential '6 album bloke' when it comes to games though.

PS+ is the online service, not the same type of thing as we're talking about here (PS Now is sony's version of the latter)

ahhhh

it is kinda confusing to have separate subscriptions for online play and for the netflix-style buffet but the latter presumably has a lot more costs associated and some people just want to play their one game online

ciderpress, Thursday, 4 June 2020 19:22 (six years ago)

i guess ideally online play would have no additional cost and any subscriptions would just be for games but we're well past that point sadly

three weeks pass...

Observation, recently added to Game Pass, is immediately one of the coolest fuckin things I have ever played/seen just within the first half hour or so

I really liked it - didn’t stick with it but it is really different

eight months pass...

It's been a dry spell for a while (for me at least), but Undertale just landed (I barely sampled it, long ago) and next week is Octopath Traveler and a very cool-looking game called Genesis Noir.

Still kinda weirded out that Octopath got a PC release and now X1 release. Good, though!
