Game adaptations that are more worthwhile than the source material?

I remember there being quite a lot of genuinely good games based on films in the early 90s and later on expectations of them were lowered.

CD Projekt Red's Witcher trilogy is better than Sapkowski's cycle of novels and on par with The Last Wish.

I don’t think there was ever a period where games based on movies were consistently good? Even as a kid in the early 90s I’d picked up that they were generally to be avoided. LucasArts definitely killed it, but don’t think that fits the criteria.

neuromancer for ms-dos (interplay 1988)

My good impressions of them was due to platformers like the two Aladdin games, Addams Family, Lion King and Cool Spot (which was essentially an advert for a drink), but I'm sure there was way more.

betrayal at krondor is significantly better than the raymond e feist novels its based on.

There are a couple of high profile ones in progress. Uncharted with Tom Holland, Last of Us HBO series (iirc). Doubt they'll be more worthwhile. Also a Monster Hunter movie that looks like shit, and ... a Resident Evil reboot? Did anyone like the most recent Tomb Raider attempt?

Terminator 3 pinball probably brought me, overall, more joy than the film Terminator 3.

actually in general pinball probably rules this thread - tons of middling but basically playable and fun adaptations of completely lame would-be blockbusters, etc.

Neighbours on the zx spectrum whilst being a monochrome simple race around a single track game was undoubtedly miles better than the tv prog

The Star Wars IP as initially laid out in film form, which is admittedly a loose take on 'adaptation'.
