Give us TES VI pls. Don’t care about space
― hrep (H.P), Thursday, 15 June 2023 03:15 (two years ago)
I'm the exact opposite! Keep your dragons, give me exoplanets!
― Cashews Everything Around Me (Leee), Thursday, 15 June 2023 03:50 (two years ago)
if I were still a gamer, and had the time to play games, and the ludicrously specced gaming pc required, I would play the shit out of this :(
― ledge, Thursday, 15 June 2023 05:49 (two years ago)
I only just got the pun in the thread title. This is PC and XBox only, right? Thanks, Microsoft.

125 GB SSD required.

This is coming out on GamePass, and I’m curious it’ll have on BG3 talk

Kinda glad this is not on PS5 so I don't have to consider it. In some ways it looks like it could be the kind of immersive space RPG that I wanted Wing Commander to become, but on the other hand it seems like it could be mostly boring first-person shooter gameplay?
Tbh I only heard about this because apparently some dumb Starfield anticipators have some sort of vendetta against Armored Core releasing around the same time.

Have you played Skyrim? I think it's going to be closer to that than, I dunno, Doom -- the combat isn't going to be the main draw for this.

No, never played it!
― Random Restaurateur (Jordan), Monday, 21 August 2023 17:46 (one year ago)
Expect janky combat -- the draw for Bethesda games are the side quests, narrative, and overwhelming size of their worlds (and putting bowls on the heads of NPCs).

this seems like another cyberpunk situation where the game's scope is smaller than 'giant seamless open world game with every type of gameplay and infinite possibilities' but no one working on it is allowed to temper peoples expectations
anyway it's going into early access this weekend so it'll become clear soon enough

Got really excited about the possibility of a surrealist space Garfield game, why you mislead me, Leee?
― emil.y, Thursday, 31 August 2023 15:50 (one year ago)
Sorry emil.y, maybe this thread can be inspiration for you!
Anyway, seems like the game is just fine: https://kotaku.com/starfield-reviews-metacritic-score-xbox-bethesda-rpg-1850792392

Couple of days yet, but been watching couple of streams on this (because I doubt I'm probably every going to buy it).
It's pretty much what I was expecting so far, F4 in space. Not seen any crashes, and only a few not bothersome glitches.

Woof, this sucks. Atrocious UI, I’ve put about 8 hours in and I still can’t comfortably get around the menus to save my life. I thought the space navigation was garbage, but then I discovered ship building and spent maybe 30 minutes trying to make one small modification.Some genuinely shit quests that are boring at best and actively annoying at worst. Chatty, obnoxious companions inappropriately interjecting in your ear. I found a derelict ship that turned out to be a casino overrun by pirates that you have to fight in zero g. That should be fun, right? It miraculously wasn’t.Finally threw the towel in when I was getting blown to hell in orbit by space cops seemingly everywhere I’d try to go for reasons that weren’t clear at all (no contraband on board, unless the hat I took out of a dead guy’s room counts).Went in genuinely wanting to like this, but it really did everything it could to wear that goodwill out.

I played an hour, decided there are 100 better games I'd rather play first, so I'm doing that instead.
― H.P, Saturday, 9 September 2023 06:22 (one year ago)
I stuck with this because I put in enough hours and I’ve read/heard enough about if you get to like the 10-12 hour mark (lol) it gets kinda fun.It does and I’m finding myself getting into it. It still has a lot of problems, classic Bethesda ones and some new ones. Still think the UI sucks. It has the Fallout 4 thing of giving you a limited band of options for an RPG. Bad writing on the whole, sometimes comically so.But… I still find myself just enjoying hanging out in this world and exploring things. It still has the Bethesda ~vibes~ thing that kind of gets to you. Like running back to your ship after a mission on a planet but it’s getting dark now and it’s raining as you power up and zoom off. Something cozy about it.

holy menus
― LaMDA barry-stanners (||||||||), Sunday, 17 September 2023 13:36 (one year ago)
I think I’m enjoying it… despite the menus, the UI, the janky combat, all the fast travelling… I think…
― LaMDA barry-stanners (||||||||), Sunday, 17 September 2023 19:42 (one year ago)
I heard it takes about 128 hours of gameplay until it gets going
― calstars, Sunday, 17 September 2023 19:48 (one year ago)
feels like there’s far too much fast travelling. part of the charm of FO3/FONV was exploring the world on foot and happening across lots of weird and wonderful things by chance
― LaMDA barry-stanners (||||||||), Wednesday, 20 September 2023 20:22 (one year ago)
that’s ok. I’ll still keep playing this garbage

Does anybody play Star Citizen? What can you tell me about it, good and bad, because it looks like a great exploration game set in space. Obviously looks can be deceiving, so before I fork out for it what should I be aware of. I couldn't find a dedicated thread for it sorry.
― Ste, Saturday, 3 August 2024 06:32 (ten months ago)
isn't Star Citizen infamous for being a total grift? idk that may have changed in the last 5 years and there may be a functioning game there now but it certainly used to be a bit of a joke. there's a loooooong thread on it over on something awful which goes into it in great detail sorry i can't be more help as i've not played it myself and it's been a while since i read anything about it, but defo one that warrants a bit of investigation before spending money on it i would think
― Windsor Davies, Saturday, 3 August 2024 08:20 (ten months ago)
thanks, i'll certainly see what I can find out first
