so I went BACK IN except when I was closing up the second time I dropped the lid. in case you didn't know the "ps2 button data cable" is attached to the lid and it fell out! what this is is the little patch cord that tells the little green and red leds to go on and also turns the ps2 on and off. also its feed is located UNDER the dvd tray so I had to unscrew the drive tray, take that out. but I couldn't get that out fully so I had to thread the fkn patch cord back into it's needle-thin slot, negotiating under the drive tray. I put it all back together, back end back on, drive back on, dvd lid back on, ps2 lid back on, slid soul calibur 2 into the drive and the world finally righted itself... haha in the top 5 moments of my year so far! : O
anyway my ps2 is nice and clean inside now, that thing was manky inside
(I didn't really mean this thread for talking about this but what the hell plus I had to tell the story as a warning DON'T GO INSIDE YOUR CONSOLE)

The thing's as good as new! I don't even have to wait on the "Browser/System Settings" screen before a disc reads anymore. Wahey!
After taking the top off once, I think I'm ready for swap magic + flip top. As soon as I can justify purchasing it, I think I will.
