So, yeah, FM2006 is just around the corner, how are ye still on FM2005 doing? Championship Manager games up to 2003 are also up for discussion.

I abandoned my game due to sheer tension. I'd got Sheff Wed up to being regular Euro Cuppers after eleven and three quarter seasons and I've left it hanging there with about 10 games to go - this season I might win the title, but after this one there's no chance. Basically I've got this German godhead of an regen AMC who's averaging 8.20 ofr somesuch, scoring more than the strikers and he'll be leaving at the end of the season - he just won't resign. There isn't a single player in the game close to him. It's tragic. It's upsetting.

I've tried a few other games since but I tend to only have one big game per incarnation and that's my one for 2005 - bring on the next one.

I'm with Gretna at the moment, we got promoted as champions two seasons on the bounce, and are currently playing ugly sisters in Scottish Division 1. Annoying thing is, nobody worthy of any play at all is remotely interested in coming to the team, so we have £500,000 to spend, and a team where no player is over 1 star, and still consists of 8 of our original 11 first team players.

The FM2006 demo is out, by the way....

Civ 4 and FM2006 out soon? Oh fuck. Oh dear.

You want to try (as I did briefly) the Swedish second division. Your players are worth either 1k or 2k and absolutely no-one will ever sign for you. Hence briefly.

Inspired by this thread I started a game in the Finnish second tier playing as Honka, a side I picked unsurprisingly on name alone. A torrid pre-season was followed by a 5-3 defeat to some amateurs in the Finnish cup but an opening league win has steadied the ship a little.

I don't think I'm very good at this game.

I've not got it yet! :0. I need to focus myself on work totally for the next month, and not be up until 4:30am trying to solve Preston North End's problems down the right flank, so I'm on self-imposed exile. S'killing me.

I must actually get an FM game, I said I'd hold out for the new one.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

the only thing I've found missing is the option to kick over a plate of sandwiches at half time when your mercurial Italian midfielder isn't pulling his weight

Options -> Preferences -> Violence

Too damn skint for the '06. FM05 is currently uninstalled on mine - a dreadful run with Stevenage Borough (they LOOKED OK, dammit) pissed me off too much. However, I'm reaching for the CD again...

ok, there are some problems, my chesterfield team just lost 6-1, 5 goals we conceded were due to defenders having short passes to other defenders intercepted or just plain ignored, ridiculous. Especially when you consider I've got them on long passes :O(

So I'm with Aalst, two rather easy promotions in two seasons sees us as the new boys in the Belgian top flight. My board is expecting European qualification, and have given me 400K. I have responded by getting in lots of Bosmans in positions where I didn't really need them.

Still, I've got Theo Walcott in my U19's!

I have a dilemma.

Having taken the helm at Liverpool 4 years ago, I came third in my first season, which placated the fans who were furious at some young Irish randomer being made boss. In the second season I led the way for most of the year then collapsed pitifully in the last 3 weeks, but I came third again and had a good CL run, so everyone was happy. I signed great young players, plus Mista and then Antonio Cassano on a Bosman, things going great.

Third season, I won the FA Cup and came second to Arsenal in the league, who finished on about 93 points, the fuckers. Anyway the board and fans are delighted by now.

So in my fourth season I win the league with a month to go (I'm also manager of Switzerland now), I sell Gerrard and Alonso and still am winning easily, with Simone Perrotta and Ronaldinho in midfield.

Anyway having narrowly lost to Inter in the CL semi final I make winning it my target for next year.

Then.....Fabio Capello is sacked as Real Madrid boss and the phone rings offering me the job. They will give me 100 million to spend on players, plus they have Gerrard, Torres, Raul, Ewerthon, Beckham, tons of other players too.

I save the game and exit, overwhelmed!

So, I think I'm going to give in and get FM2007. I have a question, though - what is the online play like, and specifically, is it possible to have an online game against a single friend?

I also need to ask how people are getting the most out of tactics, training etc. - i.e. the areas I have barely explored in previous versions of the game.

i never play online games - I play then just for me - so I don't think about stuff like work and just immerse myself in it.

As for tactics and training - it certainly seems to reward the time spent on it - You decide to always close down the opposition's callow but fleet-footed winger and always push him onto his weaker foot using your canny old full-back? Odds are you'll negate him as a threat.

Rebel.yell.For.Internet.cakes (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 January 2007 05:31 (nineteen years ago)

i think it's nice.

Will M. (Will M.), Saturday, 27 January 2007 02:33 (nineteen years ago)

I've never played a management game before. I just got this. I like being able to tell other managers that I don't like them. Even before I've played a game.

jimn (jimnaseum), Saturday, 27 January 2007 21:19 (nineteen years ago)

Don't go too crazy or they'll never sell you players. Which sucks when they have one you want. So don't hate TOO hard on Pardew because Tev/Masch have relegation clauses, I think

I wish real life were like FM07.

I think I am going to start a game with a conference north or south team-- but I don't really know any of them (alas, I am a Canadian). Anyone have a fave that they'd recommend?
