Great games that preceded FPS games

Did anyone ever play that Terminator 2029 DOS game? It ruled. You could look in 4 directions and blast shit with the mouse. It was sort of like a combination of T2 Arcade, Mechwarrior and Doom. There were underground mazes and all kinds of shit. So fun. I wish had a SoundBlaster. :(

HOSTAGE: THE EMBASSY MISSIONS (I think this was called Rescue in the US)

Xybots has a FPS-like interface, although there is a visible avatar. It's really more of a behind-the-shoulder shooter, but I think it should count here.

Notice the Rogue-like map! And simultaneous two-player mode! And you turn corners by twisting the joystick. The impossibility of emulating this feature makes the PS2 version on Midway Arcade Classics 2 kinda boring.

Jon: I spent four hours playing this with Patrick May at a huge arcade in New Hampshire two summers ago.

Hired Guns for Amiga

It is FPS-ish I guess, but you control up to 4 people, can only look in 4 directions, move one grid block at a time, etc. The best part was picking out characters/weapons before each mission, but the ones that looked coolest always kind of sucked for some reason.
