The obvious ones are things like Pro Evolution Soccer, and of course Mario Party.
Any others?

you mean like wife-swapping?

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

Um, I was thinking more along the lines of games that will remind me how great things used to be when I used to play Goldeneye with a bunch of friends.

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

Worms Armageddon

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 5 October 2005 21:08 (twenty years ago)

if it doesn't make you feel like too much of a dork, these guys make fun board/card games: http://www.cheapass.com/

Also I haven't played it but this looks fun: http://www.playwench.com/

xp ah just get a mame then.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

I like the idea of Worms Armageddon. For this kind of play, games have to be playable when really, really drunk which is why PES loses out a wee bit.

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

Mashed on PS2. amazing, even if you've only 2 controllers 4 player is still hilarious and easy to play. it's basically a micro-machines/mario kart deal. lovely little features like for example when you get eliminated (by disappearing from the screen) from a point, you get an airstrike to target one or both of your friends who are left and hence keep longer points more interesting. boom!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 21:14 (twenty years ago)

I dunno. has there been a non-sports game since goldeneye that does this for up to four folks? Halo?

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 21:14 (twenty years ago)

Mario Soccer is your game, seriously. SO SO fun.

Tombot doesn't Super Smash Bros do this?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

I mean I ws playing it (Mario Soccer) at the PAX expo at like 2 in the afternoon, with people I didn't even know, and it was the most fun I had there by a shimmering mile, I can't imagine how great it'd be with three slightly mashed mates, the gameplay is so simple and funny and fun.

Do girls count as mates? Because if so, Karaoke Revolution Party.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

Also, EyeToy Play 2. Totally fun with people around because you wind up looking like a huge jackass.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 22:16 (twenty years ago)

Yeah Eyetoy is GREAT!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

I don't know about playing with "mates", but playing with your wife and some other friends of mixed gender, DDR and that karaoke game are perfect (the second game in that karaoke series, i think, has "I believe in a thing called love"!! I nailed that fucker, high notes and all).

4P BOMBERMAN!!!

Laura H. (laurah), Thursday, 6 October 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

Saturn Bomberman is 10-player simultaneous! Never seen it done, though. I should have a Bomberman birthday party.

allenalenelnalenelnae (allenriley), Thursday, 6 October 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

didn't they have like an 8 player mode on the micro machines game on playstation? you're vehicle automically accelerated you just had to steer and break. Highly confusing but a total riot if only for a few minutes.

The trouble we had with MM was that some people just didn't 'get' the control system

and nothing will ever beat goldeneye in this department.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 6 October 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

yes, mashed is a good one. it's even held our attention on pills before.

what console do you have? the two i'd reccommend are both ps1 games:

anna kournikova's smash court tennis, has this crazily addictive multiplayer mode called smash blast, in which you and up to 3 other players hit a bomb at each other, the explosion gets bigger the longer the timer lasts so it gets pretty tactical.

then,

international track & field which is probably one of my favourite games of all time. pretty much every event relies on the same basic technique, tapping square & x as quickly as possible to raise the speed/power gauge, and then hitting r1 to determine the angle/height of your jump/throw/whatever. there's nothing quite like the feeling of throwing a hammer 100 metres. made by konami, so you know it's endlessly playable.

OMG.

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

It's practically designed to be a Pictionary machine.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 14:16 (nineteen years ago)

omfg!

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

That would be completely brilliant.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 19:37 (nineteen years ago)

Ok, surely we can do this? It can be the first ILG published game! All we need is a coder or two, a designer, and a handful of lawyers. I'm sure we can manage that. Come on!

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 20:47 (nineteen years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 8 June 2006 03:06 (nineteen years ago)

kingfish du lac (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 8 June 2006 05:48 (nineteen years ago)

can't you just use pictochat for pictionary?

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Thursday, 8 June 2006 06:49 (nineteen years ago)

As the thread starter I should admit that I can program for the DS. But, I think I've only played pictionary once in my life, and that was back in the 90s so haven't a clue how it works... Maybe I'll try that link and see.

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Thursday, 8 June 2006 10:02 (nineteen years ago)

Twister.

Darramouss ftw! (Darramouss ftw), Thursday, 8 June 2006 10:15 (nineteen years ago)

kit has a bit ov a point I guess.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 8 June 2006 23:47 (nineteen years ago)

hoorah!
although pictochat is DS to DS only, isn't it?

but yeah, you could develop some kind of pictionary game if you were hanging out with a fellow DSer. but if that were the case, why not just use a pen and paper, since you're obviously right next to each other anyway.

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Friday, 9 June 2006 09:12 (nineteen years ago)

Dude, people play Trivial Pursuit on their PCs. Hell, they even play The Weakest Link on their Playstations. The "What's the point?" argument has never stopped ropey game concepts from making loads of money...

Also, DS beats pen and paper if only for environmental reasons.

JimD (JimD), Friday, 9 June 2006 11:49 (nineteen years ago)

weakest link on PS is understandable though. you don't get Anne Robinson with some crappy homemade edition.

teh_kit has 21 friends (g-kit), Saturday, 10 June 2006 07:45 (nineteen years ago)

I'll build you a home-made anne robinson.
