or football games you've known and loved...

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 08:37 (twenty years ago)

ones which have stuff to recommend them despite their flaws

overlooked ISS or FIFAs, lost amiga games... here's some I can think of and I'll say a bit more about them and others later...

sega worldwide soccer (saturn)
libero grande (ps1)
actua soccer (ps1)
world cup (mega drive)
world cup (game boy) (a great little title)
pes 1 & 2 (ps1) (pes 2 must represent some sort of landmark in gaming, it still plays really well)

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 08:39 (twenty years ago)

how was ISS 2000 (N64)?

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

sega worldwide soccer (saturn)

Well it's certainly got it's flaws, could you care to tell me what was ever good about it? I thought it was terrible.

looks like a console sensi? mega drive?

it's been a while since I played SWS ste so I can't remember exactly how it plays... I remember loving it... plus you could do rainbow kicks (like in the snes ISS)...

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 09:29 (twenty years ago)

rainbow kick? what are those?

It was just so easy to just dribble through the centre and score the same goal time after time after time.

i may load it up tonight just to see if i'm mistaken and it is in fact slightly playable.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 09:36 (twenty years ago)

Yep, it is the Mega Drive one (or that's the one was was looking for a screenshot of at least)!

I like Sega Worldwide Soccer too, but then I don't really play too many football games. The only ones I know are ISS '98, Sensible Soccer, SWS and Fifa '95/'96/'97. '95 is absolutely phenomenal, mainly due to the "punch" move.

match day 2! i hate football, but even i loved match day 2.

also on a spectrum tip: the BASIC-coded genius that was football manager.

SWOS looks great for its age

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

Match Day 2 was one i enjoyed too, you could change loads of game options.

"Come on Ritman United!!"

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 11:52 (twenty years ago)

mega man soccer
winning eleven (insert number here)
the snes fifa games
the post-snes fifa games
shaolin soccer, mini-game in rag doll kung fu

Total Soccer 2000 is really underrated I think! In that it was essentially sensible soccer with fancier graphics from TWO THOUSAND.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Thursday, 13 October 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

no love for striker? world cup '94 on SNES? super sidekicks?

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 13 October 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

STRIKER!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Thursday, 13 October 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

World Cup Italia '90 on the master system. I knew and loved it in my youngster years. I am sure it is pretty crap but i have many memories of running up to the corner flag and passing it across the box fr an easy goal. It was a really bad birds-eye view too.

I liked Worldwide Soccer. I remember i got club edition and in my very first game i went blackburn (can't remember who i was against) and Tim Flowers saved a pretty easy shot in the middle of the box and then proceeded to roll along the ground Through the back of the net fr the funniest own goal i've ever seen in my life.

Am I also allowed to mention Tracksuit Manager? or are manager games not included? Anyway I've said it now, it was great especially the International version (or was that the *only* version?)

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 13 October 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

the soccer minigame in Ape Escape 2 is the best soccer game ever.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 13 October 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

c7n (Cozen), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 16:15 (twenty years ago)

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

Up and running at last. D/ling it now. Really pro site, down to the slightly stupid team description videos by a couple of 5!Live pundits. Intrigued, at least.

I watched the trailer? It seemed like it had way more 'wondering around a half-empty virtual world to get from grinding-place to grinding-place' than actual football?

Good 11-on-11 multiplayer videogame football would be a delight, imo, maybe a grail - what's the closest people here have come to it?

Gravel Puzzleworth, Sunday, 1 March 2009 21:08 (seventeen years ago)

I didn't check the specs first and couldn't run it anyway :( What with not being able to play this and Euro Truck Simulator in the same week it's getting near time for a new computer.

I'm quite into wandering around half-empty virtual worlds. Maybe should make a project of it.

i wonder if it's an option online for the PES? the 'become a legend mode' has you play first person in one position, so you'd think it'd be a logical extension of that?

you can already get great 10-on-10 multiplayer football in fifa 09 : /

cozwn, Sunday, 1 March 2009 21:19 (seventeen years ago)
