Maybe it's too soon, but I don't care. Don't pretend you haven't thought about it already!

For me, my wish list is going to be about filling in those older holes in my game collection that I've been dying to fill, and buying a portable for the first time since Game Gear. So far:

Nintendo DS + Mario Kart DS bundle
Metroid: Zero Mission (GBA)
Metroid Fusion (GBA)
Final Fantasy Anthology (PS)
Chrono Cross (PS)
Castlevania: Symphony of Night (PS)
Paper Mario (GC)

As far as newer stuff I'm less certain. I'm going back and forth about Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and Osu! Tatake! Ouendan! Are they really that good? What are the must haves of the holiday season?

Laura H. (laurah), Friday, 14 October 2005 03:19 (twenty years ago)

the only thing on my list is to win the xbox 360 contest i have been entering hourly!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 14 October 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

i don't even particularly want one!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 14 October 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

Should I ask?

Laura H. (laurah), Friday, 14 October 2005 04:17 (twenty years ago)

god! it's this terrible soft drink contest where they're doing hourly draws for the damn things. i can't stay away!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 14 October 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

How many drinks have you had so far???

Laura H. (laurah), Friday, 14 October 2005 11:10 (twenty years ago)

The Revolution will not be available at Xmastime.

TOMBOT, Friday, 14 October 2005 12:53 (twenty years ago)

that's what I want for christmas too : /

...though failing that, a decent RPG for the DS would be nice

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 14 October 2005 13:11 (twenty years ago)

TOMBOT, Friday, 14 October 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

Maybe a PS2 + Katamari. Actually, I'm considering trading in my Xbox for that.

Otherwise, I just want NES/SNES carts.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

one huge collection

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

Osu! > Castlevania. Very much. Though Castlevania is very fun too.

adam (adam), Friday, 14 October 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

laura, don't get final fantasy anthology. The games are emulated and have longer load times than the originals. download the roms for snes FFv and FFvi instead.

as for my wish list, I got a ps2 this month, so I'm wishing for sands of time, katamari damacy, psychonauts, kingdom hearts, metal gear solid 2 and ico. if I don't buy them first.

älänbänänä (alanbanana), Friday, 14 October 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

Other great GBA games -- Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Wario Ware, Zelda: Minish Cap, and all of the Super Mario ports.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 14 October 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

But final fantasy anthology correctly preserves the difficulty of the original japanese games and has proper translations of the games not released on snes/nes

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 21 October 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, amen to Guitar Hero.

melton mowbray (adr), Friday, 21 October 2005 12:01 (twenty years ago)

just wait for final fantasy games on the gba!

allenalenelnalenelnae (allenriley), Friday, 21 October 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

Will there be more?

Even so, as much as I had fun playing FF Crystal Chronicles on GBA, it was waaaayyy easier than the real FF1.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 21 October 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

The Revolution will not be available at Xmastime.

i read this in gil scott heron's deadpan and am still laughing

foxy boxer (stevie), Sunday, 23 October 2005 14:43 (twenty years ago)

MGS3: subsistence

just been watching the trailer for this on the TGS disc that comes with this month's edge and I'm psyched... finally get to play this through with the camera it should've had originally: fully 3D... plus the bundle has the two original MSX games and a whole host of other nonsense

c7n (Cozen), Monday, 24 October 2005 20:12 (twenty years ago)

theyre straight porting 4, 5 and 6

allenalenelnalenelnae (allenriley), Monday, 24 October 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

GC GBA player worth it?

I would like sqaure to port FFVII to my DS please

c7n (Cozen), Monday, 24 October 2005 20:32 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
OK, I need to get my final wish list up today on Amazon.com. I have:

-Bubble Bobble (NES)
-Metroid: Zero Mission (GBA)
-Metroid Fusion (GBA)
-Chrono Cross (PS)
-Castlevania: Symphony of Night (PS)
-Zelda: Minish Cap (GBA)

I feel like I'm getting all GBA to play on my DS. Shouldn't I be getting more DS games? And speaking of GBA, is Mario Kart: Super Circuit worth buying when I have Mario Kart DS to play? How about Mario and Luigi Super Saga? Help me out here people.

Laura H. (laurah), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

I managed to pick up "symphony of the night" a wee while back, still sealed - I've yet to crack the seal on it : /

MK: super circuit not worth buying, no - I pick it up now and again but always put it down after a couple of tracks - it's like the SNES version except w.out the luxury of the big screen

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

just wait for final fantasy games on the gba!

Laura H. (laurah), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

All I want:

FFIV (GBA)
Shadow of the Colossus

I'm vaguely interested in the new Prince of Persia and Castlevania games for PS2, but they sound like ehhh sequels.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory

Dan I. (Dan I.), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

guitar hero is still too hard to play when you're really drunk, thus lessening its party-game aspects

kingfish trampycakes (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

the UK titles on release so far for Christmas are a bit underwhelming....

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

im kinda hot for guitar hero too

heres my amazon wishlist so far:

Hip Hop Icedout Crown Medallion !Includes 30 " Icedout Necklace -
Fleur de Lis Crown Tiara Pave CZ Ring
Pageant Queen Crown CZ Necklace
REDOCTANE Guitar Hero Bundle ( Playstation 2 )
Katamari Damacy for PlayStation 2
DDR Max 2: Dance Dance Revolution and PlayTech Dance Pad Bundle (which i want to use for exercising. fuck gyms)

i need to think of more stuff. im giving pleasant plains the heavy hints for a sidekick II (ie 'i think you should buy me a sidekick II!'), his only other option being a 1981 t-top special edition gold trans am.

any other suggestions are welcome.

sunny successor (katharine), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

oh crap. i thought this was ILE. Ignore everything but the games.

Ive really got to start reading threads before posting to them

a cross we all have to bear

kingfish trampycakes (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 18:27 (twenty years ago)

I've been warned not to buy myself a PS2 yet. I really really want one and the Katamari games. And maybe DDR.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

SOME GOOD GAMES TO COME OUT FOR THE DS IN AUSTRALIA, DAMMIT.

Still waiting for goddamned Metroid and Castlevania (Which I placed a pre-order for about 2 MONTHS AGO)

PlayfulPuppy (playfulpuppy), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

Jaq, cant you hire one or borrow one for a couple of days? play it for 48 hours straight and you'll never want to see it again.

there must be some cheapy second hand ps2 sold by xbox360 wannas needing 50 extra bucks, surely. esp the old fat ps2s.

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 01:27 (twenty years ago)

cant you hire one or borrow one for a couple of days?

This is a good idea. But I think it may be too late - he was acting smug-ish at lunch today when I brought it up.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 03:11 (twenty years ago)

Who is "he"?

GET EQUIPPED WITH BUBBLE LEAD (ex machina), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

I dropped $$$$ on KOTOR 2 & the GTA box set for Ye Olde X-Box, so I think I'm set for the holidays (& the next 3 years). I could use that pony, tho. Mom. If you're reading. (& maybe a new PC so I can buy Civ IV & not worry about s-s-s-stuttering.) (Mom.)

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

I really hope Civ4 comes out for PSP

GET EQUIPPED WITH BUBBLE LEAD (ex machina), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

there must be some cheapy second hand ps2 sold by xbox360 wannas needing 50 extra bucks, surely. esp the old fat ps2s.

I am using this logic to consider one for games I can't get for the GameCube (Katamari, Brian Lara Cricket, PES5).

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure you have a friend who'd let you borrow a system.

GET EQUIPPED WITH BUBBLE LEAD (ex machina), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

You'd think so, wouldn't you. But I don't.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Who is "he"?

Husband

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

does that mean he bought it?

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

He won't say. But he's acting like he has. Infuriating. I want to roll a sticky ball around and pick up rainbows NOW!

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
Haha, so my girlfriend ended up with extra copies of We Love Katamari (which she already has) and Animal Crossing (which I had already bought her, but she also told my folks that *I* wanted it, for her own nefarious purposes!) from my family.

I was hoping to get FFIV for our road trip this weekend, but OH NO SOLD OUT!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 22 December 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

Me: Do you have Final Fantasy IV for Game Boy?
Best Buy Dude: Yes. No, wait, it's sold out.
Me: Okay, thanks.
BBD: ...the game's totally awesome, though.
Me: OKAY, THANKS.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 22 December 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

I am usually a stickler for not opening presents early, but DAMMIT I WANT TO PLAY KATAMARI! I think we should open everything on Friday night.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 22 December 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

I got Metroid: Zero Mission for my birthday which is today, and it's great. Really similar to Super Metroid, but that can only be a good thing.

Laurah (laurah), Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:31 (twenty years ago)

Uh... I guess the reason that is relevant to the thread is that it was on my Christmas list.

Laura H. (laurah), Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

happy birthday laura!!

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:35 (twenty years ago)

Happy birthday sistrah!

remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

Happy birthday :)

melton mowbray (adr), Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

Happy Birthday Laura! I hope you get even more games for Xmas!

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

Glad you're enjoying Metroid: ZM!

(I also got Shadow of the Colossues and I am very excited about it.)

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURA H

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

awww

Laura H. (laurah), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

OHMIGOD! PS2 KATAMARI DAMACY AND WE LOVE KATAMARI!!!! YAY!!!

see you, oh, later!

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 24 December 2005 01:39 (twenty years ago)

I had animal crossing, mario and luigi and world of warcraft on my christmas list but i bought them all yesterday.

I am still wanting final fantasy tactics advance (bought a counterfeit copy before that doesn't save) and phoenix wright: ace attorney.

jeffrey (johnson), Saturday, 24 December 2005 16:44 (twenty years ago)

I'm so excited about the awesome games I presume I will get tomorrow. The only difficult part is, how will I choose which one to play first?

These are the types of problems I need more of in my life.

Laura H. (laurah), Saturday, 24 December 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I got any video games for xmas this year! That would make it basically equivalent to every christmas since I was about 9 except for last year, so I should probably figure on getting more videogames at 34 or so?

TOMBOT, Sunday, 25 December 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

I try to get at least one game, video game or otherwise, every Christmas. It really doesn't feel like Christmas unless I can play after the presents are opened.

Laura H. (laurah), Sunday, 25 December 2005 03:27 (twenty years ago)

my parents refuse to get me video games for christmas :(

remy (x Jeremy), Sunday, 25 December 2005 03:29 (twenty years ago)

LEGO STAR WARS
YIPPEE

TOMBOT, Sunday, 25 December 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

dammit, no DS for me, but i did get Metroid Zero. Now, i just need a thing to play it on.

kingfish holiday travesty (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 26 December 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

my brother got me fire emblem!

and it is almost EXACTLY westnoth + advance wars (with a twist of generic rpg)

which is ok with me!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 26 December 2005 01:21 (twenty years ago)

The family didn't buy eachother presents this year, so I didn't have any games on my wishlist, but my amazing friend Andy bought me:

-NiGHTS packaged w/ "3D Controller" (Saturn analog pad which is pretty much the Dreamcast controller)
-Sonic Shuffle (Dreamcast)
-Wonder Boy in Monster World (Megadrive) which I have have been promising myself to buy for the last year or so.

And he got me the Firefly boxset, thankyou so much!

melton mowbray (adr), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

I need a 3d controller to make my NiGHTS complete.

jeffrey (johnson), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 00:55 (twenty years ago)

I exchanged some gifts for FFIV at Best while on the road, and played it all weekend at my fiancee's grandma's house.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 00:58 (twenty years ago)

i have a 100$ credit on amazon,... what to buy?

adr, are you living in 2001?

GET EQUIPPED WITH BUBBLE LEAD (ex machina), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 03:33 (twenty years ago)

Yep, only here they call it "Britain".

melton mowbray (adr), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 10:56 (twenty years ago)

(also, the PAL Sonic Shuffle is a lot scarcer than the American release, which is easy to get hold of)

melton mowbray (adr), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

I got Minish Cap (great), Metroid Fusion (have to finish Zero Mission first), and Bubble Bobble (will play for the first time tonight).

Laura H. (laurah), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

I got Sims2 for the DS, and Buzz! for the PS2 - both of which I'd been after. Buzz is a bit disappointing: it is specifically a music quiz and whats worse, the song clips they play are terrible muzak versions, not the real thing (like the movie clips were in Scene It for eg). Still, it was good for a party, and if expansions with other quiz topics come out I'll be all for that.

Sims2 on the DS is... odd. I like it, but it is a really cut down, rather non-sandbox game. You arrive in this little town and you have to take over running the hotel, and thats about it. Stats are reduced to one single "sanity meter" instead of hunger, bladder, etc. It is fun though.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

those portable sims games seem so misguided

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

They certainly are nothing like Sims on the PC. I have to assume it is simply to do with memory and storage, hence being so cut down. I'd love a SimCity4 on the DS - the touch/dual screen would be brill, one screen could show all yr stats and the touchscreen could have yr city on it, nav with the stylus... I suppose it is too big a game to port to DS though.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 00:31 (twenty years ago)

i think the main reason is they want you to buy both versions so they make the handheld version totally different.

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 01:14 (twenty years ago)

Ya probably - same with the Sims/Urbz on the PS2 I guess.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 02:11 (twenty years ago)

i got all my xmas wishes including the crown. havent played DDR yet.

sunny successor (katharine), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 13:49 (twenty years ago)

brother couldn't find Ratchet and Clank so i ended up with simpsons road rage - kinda like a Blue Sky version of GTA. sat down for an hour on saturday to play it and all of a sudden it was 5 hours later...

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 14:09 (twenty years ago)

you mean hit&run right? road rage is a crazy taxi ripoff.

i got:
katamari damacy
jak 2
ratchet and clank going commando
tony hawk ps 3
kingdom hearts
psychonauts

älänbänänä (alanbanana), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 16:07 (twenty years ago)

hit and run, yes.

alan looks like he is as much behind the times as myself 8)

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 16:31 (twenty years ago)

alan, what do you think of THPS 3? I havent played it much because I was always miffed that Bob Burnquist was left out.

sunny successor (katharine), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 16:37 (twenty years ago)

yeah I asked for lots of greatest hits type cheap stuff.

THPS3 i've played for like 2 hours, it's fun but I've never played a skateboarding game before so I can't compare.

älänbänänä (alanbanana), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 16:46 (twenty years ago)
