that might be a little difficult

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 18 September 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

dental plan!

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Sunday, 18 September 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

Eh, let's give it a try.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 18 September 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

ok, any tips on clocking jenova/bizzaro sephiroth/safer sephiroth at the end of ff7?

rio natsume, Sunday, 18 September 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

jenova
Sephiroth
more sephiroth

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 18 September 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

It always help to be a complete nerd and level everyone to 99. It raises the boss's level, but that's actually more fun.

As for final Sephiroth: he's easy! I think it's supposed to be purposefully anti-climactic, just an excuse to limit break him to end the game. I remember having to de-equip my counterattack and 4x slash materia so that I wouldn't kill him when he attacked me.

As with pretty much everything, spend 3000 hours getting a gold chocobo and Knights of the Round, and voila! your lost time is repaid to you by the game being drained of challenge.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Sunday, 18 September 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

Thank god for the secret bosses in that case! Ah, Ruby Weapon.

Leeeeeeeee (Leee), Sunday, 18 September 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

so i killed jenova, but then died at the first sephiroth because none of my other characters were equipped with materia! oops. i think i need to start growing some more. any good spots to level up & gain magic points?

what materia is essential (other than knights of the round)? and where can i find 4 x slash, will i have missed it for good if i don't have it already? and how do i get the special materia that is like all spells in one?

ruby weapon - is that the guy where you have to kill 2 of your party off before hand otherwise he's invincible?

rio natsume, Sunday, 18 September 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

A really good level up place is in/near the final level. If you know where you fight those little balls, they give out tonnes of experience/AP points. As for the other questions: I can't remember, so get thee to one gamefaqs.com.

yes. though it's still not enough to beat the cocksucking ruby/emerald weapons.

i still haven't beaten ff7/!! rio, the magic pots in Crater give like 1000 ap per kill. equip your dudes (Cloud & Cid i think) w/triple growth weapons and go to town.

yeah, they still have yet to fix that. Even in FFX, people were talking about being so ridiculously overpowered that the rest of hte game was a joke.

I'm absolutely stumped on Ico after finally getting hold of it (and people told me this game was short and easy). I've puzzled over the same thing for a couple of hours, but the game's so good I don't want to look it up on a walkthrough or ask someone else how to do it. Am I the only person in the history of ever who's got stuck on this game?

melton mowbray (adr), Monday, 19 September 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

clue: most of the puzzles are extremely intuitive, so much so when you do finally solve it you will be surprised that the programmers got the ico world to work so much like the real world and not the usual zelda style puzzle-logic world

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 19 September 2005 11:52 (twenty years ago)

I realise that that is perhaps the least useful immediate advice I could probably have given you but it should be most of the advice anyone needs to unlock the game

that said, I never finished it

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 19 September 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

I am trying to remember what part of it completely stumped me. I am also trying to remember that I should be job-seeking, and so playing through it to find out is probably not a good idea.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 19 September 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

there was a great part early on, I remember, that had me stumped, I don't remember the specifics but it involved climbing high into the rafters of the room and bashing the chandelier that was handing in the middle so that it fell and broke the bridge I was trying to cross or something like it (there was some other part to the puzzle that I thought, when I'd got it, that it was dazzling, that the programmers had the gall to make the game work like that) (haha reading this back it's all airy and inconsequential; perfect for ico!)

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 19 September 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

Discovering Ico & Sigur Ros at the same time always seemed so appropriate.

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 19 September 2005 14:19 (twenty years ago)

Ico is great, but I never finished it because I found the fights too frustrating. if it was just puzzles and shit it would've been cooler.

sux2bu (Adrian Langston), Monday, 19 September 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

this calls for a Shadow of the Colossus thread!!!

sux2bu (Adrian Langston), Monday, 19 September 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

rumor had it that the japanese version gave you a lightsaber of sorts after beating it a coupla times, instead of just some pussy-ass mace.

So should I, but something about this game makes it seem more important than anything else right now. I think I'm telling myself that if I get this kid out of the castle he'll give me a job.

This bit was fantastic, probably my favourite bit in the game so far. The part I'm on is right after this, outside the door that bridge gets you to, and after a story-related cutscene. If you know what I'm stuck on, feel free to drop the wildest hints you want, as long as you don't directly tell me. Then I'll think I didn't complete it properly.

melton mowbray (adr), Monday, 19 September 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

Actually, forget that. Don't tell me what to do, just answer the following question with a yes or a no.

I've gotten to the graveyard, and pushed a big block into a hole. It's sunk into the floor. There's another block on top of the building which I can't get to. The girl's pointing at the block as if I don't bloody know it's there. Back in the previous area there are two open windows, seemingly leading into a room I haven't been in. Up on the roof there's a wire going into a hole in the wall, with the other end attached to a bridge I'm pretty sure I need to cross in order to get on top of that building in the graveyard.

Here's the question:

Do I need to get into one of those windows?

melton mowbray (adr), Monday, 19 September 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

thing about ico: whenever you see any rope or any ladder, you will eventually have to climb it.

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 19 September 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Oh, that's the thing! There's nothing to climb anywhere in sight. I can't seem to get hold of the wire on the roof.

melton mowbray (adr), Monday, 19 September 2005 18:28 (twenty years ago)

can you grab onto any window ledges?

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 19 September 2005 18:28 (twenty years ago)

Didn't look like I can reach anything, but I'll try again in a moment. It looks like there's a patterned tile on the floor underneath the bottom window, as if I'm supposed to push a box onto it, but alas there is no box. I tried putting a bomb on there and blowing it up, but no luck. I guess that doesn't come under the intuitive logic that cozen mentioned upthread.

I'd take a photo of the place, but a friend has my camera!

melton mowbray (adr), Monday, 19 September 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

try standing the girl on one of the patterned tiles.

rio natsume, Monday, 19 September 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

I tried this, but I was holding her hand at the time. The tone in your writing says that you're certain this is right though, so thanks in advance!

melton mowbray (adr), Monday, 19 September 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

Ahhh, thankyou very much! I put her on the square I was thinking of and nothing happened, but went back to the other area and stood her on another one and it worked! I feel really stupid for not working this out myself - even if I'd stood on the square myself I'd have solved it.

melton mowbray (adr), Monday, 19 September 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

four weeks pass...
we don't have a PSP thread and I'm not starting one, but this console is fucked up: thing after thing of homebrew add-ons and mods: add one iTrip and add one HD

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 17 October 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)
