I like the Mario 20th Wacky Famicom Version.

adam (adam), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 14:01 (nineteen years ago)

it looks like the red one has 'a' and 'b' buttons and then they are labelled "A" and "B" on the fascia. which seems redundant

True. It's kinda neat, but still not as nice as the flip-top GBA.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

... which has just been re-released with the same screen as the micro i.e. front-lit rather than back-lit

c7n (Cozen), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

and confession time - I can't STAND to play GBA games on my DS

c7n (Cozen), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

Why not?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

I'm a fussy weirdo and can't stand to see one of the screens blank... surely they could have something running on the inert screen, even if it's just the nintendo logo... all that dead glass really spins me out... which probably means I'll end up picking up a micro, since I traded in my SP...

Now that I recovered my SNES, I can't decide if I should buy FFII and Yoshi's Island for it or GBA.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 16:07 (nineteen years ago)

Cozen otm! I feel like I should be able to take the top screen off, leaving me with a Game and Watch type Gameboy in my hands.

melton otm.

I think the GBA screen is a different aspect ratio than a TV's, so ports like Yoshi's Island aren't quite direct ports - they had to change things around somewhat to make it fit the new screen shape.

The Yellow Kid, Tuesday, 1 November 2005 21:33 (nineteen years ago)

plus the GBA isn't as powerful or rather capable as the SNES was in some aspects, right?

c7n (Cozen), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 21:45 (nineteen years ago)

four weeks pass...
Aww, Final Fantasy IV is coming out for GBA five days AFTER I get back from my long, boring business trip. :(

My flatmate went to a press launch for some new shampoo product last night, and she got given a free gameboy micro. I don't understand journalism. Still, means I got to play with one. It's about half the size I imagined it'd be, it's very cute. But I've got big fingers. So I think I'm still going to be happier playing GBA games through my DS.

one year passes...

very very small, and you can pick them up very very cheap nowadays

anyways, has anyone played any of the bit generations games or rhythm tengoku?!

czn, Sunday, 5 August 2007 21:50 (eighteen years ago)

yes! the best bit generation games are "dotstream" (kind of like tron racing - love this game) and "orbital" (a bit like "flow", using gravity to make yr little planet grow into a star system)
"rhythm tengoku" is good fun, very odd. shooting ghosts in the face with arrows etc.

zappi, Sunday, 5 August 2007 23:17 (eighteen years ago)

this site has info about "dotstream". oh yeh the music is fuckin great, almost like an 8bit neu at points.

zappi, Sunday, 5 August 2007 23:20 (eighteen years ago)

I have ordered dialhex and soundvoyager (based on the descriptions alone) but figure that they're so cheap I'll probably pick up the bunch, in time

czn, Monday, 6 August 2007 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

yeh "soundvoyager" is good, i love the first stage. bit like playing rez with your eyes closed!

zappi, Monday, 6 August 2007 12:14 (eighteen years ago)

Aw, these games look pretty great.

melton mowbray, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 17:25 (eighteen years ago)

have these gotten a non-japanese release?

patita, Thursday, 16 August 2007 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

none of thme have been released outside of the nintendo fan club thing in japan. sadly if you wanna play you gotta cheat.
