also, the wiki contains this line: Though a popular seller, the game is now generally regarded by many as being inferior to most other side-scrolling Mario games.
Altho, Super Mario Land 2 was the first who feature Wario, so maybe Gunpei Yokoi had something to do with it?
Say, did anybody ever play a WonderSwan?

I always am filled with a sense of wonder and excitement when I look through old game magazines! I love reading old GamePros and sometimes I discover great games in them that I ignored when they were originally published, like Alisia Dragoon for the Genesis. Nintendo Power makes me wistful.
― allen riley (allenriley), Thursday, 10 November 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)
This isn't true: the game was developed by Nintendo's R&D1 group, headed by Gunpei Yokoi, the guy who designed the Game Boy. This group also developed all of the Metroid games up through Super Metroid. Can't get much more Nintendo than that, brah.
from n-sider.com:
Yokoi and his R&D1 group developed some of the Game Boy's best games, including the Super Mario Land titles, Metroid II - Return of Samus, and Dr. Mario, a puzzle game that would also be developed for the Famicom.

I'd have to say Super Mario World - just endless hours of entertainment from that combined with the nostalgia factor.
I'd also rank M64 and Mario Galaxy up there because of the 1) fun 2) length of the games, and 3) graphics at the time they were released going well with the Mario world. Although a lot of Mario games are quite long, and that's a good thing.

― thomp, Tuesday, 14 July 2009 08:21 (sixteen years ago)
yup get super mario advance 3: yoshi's island, apparently some of the sounds are slightly different but apart from tht it's snes perfect. this is wht I'm playing now
there's yoshi's island DS too (by artoon) which is a de facto sequel but by all accounts more like a 1.5. reports on tht one are mixed
