Well? Is it worth picking up? I've read so much about it I'm seriously considering buying it. What's the gameplay like?

It's a Lucasarts adventure game. There are 4 chapters in the game that you have to complete in order, but in most parts of the game there's more than one thing you can work on at once. There are no optional puzzles. Lots of puzzles, for the most part they are decently integrated into the game. I got stuck at a few points and had to read a walkthrough. There are timed puzzles but nothing unreasonable. The story and the look are the main draws. Anything else?

"Yes, it's absoltely fantastic" is all that seems to be missing from your summary :)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 13:03 (twenty years ago)

is it Mac-able?

Well then I feel that I should purchase said game. I feel that it would be most helpful in my quest to avoid studying for imminent exams.

This game is extremely good. it's one of the most unique things I can remember playing.

Laura H. (laurah), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

Well it's ordered! Goodbye pass hello repeats ;)

You can play it on Macs, but you have to run the Virtual Windows thing. It's worth it, tho.

Also, the game is probably the best adventure game ever, and one of the top things Lucasarts ever put out. The graphics are dated(3D characters running around in rendered environments), but the voice-acting, design, music, & narrative are beyond tops.

Also, Robert Frost jokes.

And Glottis.

Run you pigeons, it's Robert Frost!

melton mowbray (adr), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

Seriously, it's an entire game based on a film noir Dia De Los Muertos design. What more do you need?

Also, beatniks.

Guess what arrived today? Focus on exams fading, urge to start playing rising...

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Monday, 21 November 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

Okay I turned it on. I am weak. It's very funny ("Look out pigeons, it's Robert Frost!") but I have a problem: Every couple of minutes it freezes or the audio stops working. Could it be a memory issue? I'm fairly PC useless now it seems that my directx could be at faulty, attempts at reinstallation have been unsuccessful.

Hmmm... this sounds like an interesting setup for something. Good thing the payoff's not for another 60 puzzles.

Cool stuff!

Nhex, Thursday, 6 November 2008 05:50 (seventeen years ago)

Oh man, I want to play this again right now.

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 6 November 2008 08:26 (seventeen years ago)

In fact, if this ends up on the ILG games club, I'd be interested in that.

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 6 November 2008 08:27 (seventeen years ago)

okay, okay, once we get through the 10 freeware, I'll nominate GF.

forksclovetofu, Thursday, 6 November 2008 15:45 (seventeen years ago)

Is there any way to play this on a Mac?

Tracer Hand, Friday, 7 November 2008 13:44 (seventeen years ago)

that's what i've always wanted to know! i think the answer is no, natively speaking, but there are many ways to get around that these days.

s1ocki, Friday, 7 November 2008 15:10 (seventeen years ago)

Uncle Shavedlongcock (max), Friday, 7 November 2008 15:11 (seventeen years ago)

sktsh, Monday, 30 January 2012 13:34 (fourteen years ago)

this game is pretty fun, stylish, etc but playing this and monkey island 2 as a 30+ year old I wonder how in the hell people were supposed to figure out the solutions to some of these 'puzzles'. I cheated back then and found myself cheating now.

strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Monday, 30 January 2012 22:51 (fourteen years ago)

otm

never bothered me though. I enjoyed them for the stories way more than the puzzles.

two years pass...

I've never played this -- official reversh just came out on Steam today. Kind of excited to finally have a go.

Chuck_Tatum, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 17:51 (eleven years ago)

Anyone played the remaster? I loved the original and was a bit skeptical because the Monkey Island remaster made me go "huh, that's not what THAT looks like, this looked better as a jumble of pixels" buuuut the videos on Steam look gorgeous

too bad there's no new release discount, unless I missed it already

club mate martyr (a passing spacecadet), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 20:46 (eleven years ago)

The Monkey Island rerelease has an option that allows you to flip back and forth from the original to the remaster. I'd wager this will follow suit.

Boo to no PS3 release. Boooooo.

Dum Dum Yummy Yummy Dum Dum (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 20:50 (eleven years ago)

Yep, you can go back and forth on this too.

Chuck_Tatum, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 22:06 (eleven years ago)

Will buy if it comes to iOS
