haha or the curse of buying the same game every year?

Jdubz (ex machina), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 22:42 (twenty years ago)

The thread title would be a good game:

You play a Simon Belmont-type hunting thru the forbidden catacombs underneath Fox Sports(he's not at CBS anymore, right?). Madden & Terry Bradshaw offer commentary on your gameplay as you progress.

I completely forgot that McNabb was on the cover. This explains everything!

Should I buy this?

Madden 06? I think it's excellent. It may be a roster update, but it's easily the best American Football game I've played. Better than Super Tecmo Bowl or Madden 94 or the various arcade-style games. The character animations are really incredible at this point, and I am probably the only person on earth who actually enjoys the cone passing system. And anyway, you can turn it off.

six months pass...
did anyone ever notice the curse of dreamcast? when sega europe blew all their marketing cash on sponsoring football teams and none of them had any success whatsoever?

arsenal = won nothing
st etienne = relegated
deportivo la coruna = failed to defend title
sampdoria = stuck in serie b for term of sponsorship

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Saturday, 3 June 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

Claps like a homosexual AND cursed now--I mean seriously.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

Dude, you're jinxing his jinx! He will have the last laugh. A dainty, effete laugh, but a laugh nonetheless.

INSANE CLOWN FOSSE (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 23:57 (nineteen years ago)

Well then it'll be yr lucky day when you, fine man, are the owner of one (1) Alexander drafted!

I hope Madden includes him clapping.

not content to destroy himself; now taking two teams with him:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- This year's edition of EA Sports' ''Madden NFL'' video game will feature two cover athletes: Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu and Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

The shared cover of ''Madden NFL 10,'' which arrives in stores Aug. 14, has something for everyone: Polamalu is a defensive AFC player and Fitzgerald an offensive NFC player.

Both played in last season's Super Bowl, which the Steelers won in a 27-23 nail-biter. Both athletes are known for their long, helmet-defying hair.

I'm just gonna rent it, because if the last few years are any indication this will not be a long player for me.

J0rdan S., Monday, 9 August 2010 16:41 (fifteen years ago)

ha I refuse to get these just because I tried playing the original in '89 and it was horrible

people are for loving (HI DERE), Monday, 9 August 2010 17:18 (fifteen years ago)

i get it when i'm in love with my team from that year and i want a permanent memento of that year's team. lol. it's like a really expensive football card that you can play.

Fuck this game. I am trading it off of my team in Madden as soon as I get home.

jeff, Monday, 9 August 2010 22:25 (fifteen years ago)

took me so long to parse that

partly because i get a discount on 3@ games i am picknig this up for the first ime ever and also looknig to adopt an NFL team to be a fan of... What team should I adopt as my favorite in the NFL this year?

the depressed-saggy-japanese-salaryman of ilx posters (Will M.), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

Why did I buy this. :(

Gus Johnson is definitely the best thing about it so far.

no gut busting joke can change history (polyphonic), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 04:23 (fifteen years ago)

i still cannot parse jeff's comment

Mordy, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 04:28 (fifteen years ago)

anyway, do complainers not like it because it's a bad iteration of the franchise? (if i like the franchise generally, can i expect to be happy with madden 11?)

Mordy, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 04:29 (fifteen years ago)

The basic gameplay is fun, although they've taken pretty much everything off the bumpers and put it on the right stick, which I'm still getting used to. The presentation is pretty slick. My preseason game was Bears vs. Chargers, and they completely dissected the rivalry between Rivers and Cutler as well as Cutler's struggles last year. When I scored, Gus sang the Super Chargers song. But there is a lot of garbage they added to this one that is just annoying. Tons of ads, tons of things to spend actual money on, lots of pop up-ish things that feel like they get in the way.

I think you'll like it but there's just a lot of annoying bullshit added to it.

no gut busting joke can change history (polyphonic), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 04:36 (fifteen years ago)

i hate this gaming trend of asking gamers to buy extra stuff once they've already bought your game :/

Mordy, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 04:44 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, EA is by far the worst about the horse armor bullshit
though if you could buy a 2010/11 season without brett...

Madden 11 ON IPHONE sounds pretty sweet, especially the way GameFlow keeps shit moving along:

This is hilarious. Well done, sir.

Sauvignon Blanc Mange (B.L.A.M.), Monday, 16 August 2010 18:45 (fifteen years ago)

four years pass...

I think the real curse of Madden is when I suddenly, inexplicably get the urge to buy Madden again every year even though I barely played the last few iterations I purchased.
