Gaming magazine recommendations?

My daughter says her fiance would probably like a subscription to a gaming magazine. But which one? I know he plays World of Warcraft and Counterstrike, but also does some console gaming. Amazon lists Electronic Gaming, PC Gamer, and Computer Gaming. Any recommendations?

Shit, are there any good gaming mags left?

I was always partial to Computer Gaming World, but I don't even know if that one exists anymore...

If he likes to buy used games, get him the discount card at Gamestop. It's only $15, but it gets you 10% off all used games, and a year's subscription to their Game Informer magazine. Plus I think you get an extra 10% on the games you sell.

My friend writes for EGM. It's okay. Nothing special but not bad.

I like Game Informer for the ILx connection. And TEH OFFICIAL PLAYSTATION MAGAZINE WITH DEMO DISC EXTRAVAGANZA ETC ETC is surprisingly much less enthusiastic and blowjobby than other vg magazines.

Who's the connection?

Great suggestion, Laura - there's a Gamestop in their town! (Maybe they are in every college town...)

he plays Counterstrike? he should join [ILX]. (it's a loose connection, but it's a connection nonetheless)

I think it's a sort of deterrent when your mom (or possible future mom-in-law) posts there. Perhaps he (and my son, also a massive CS player) lurk. I've mentioned it enough to them.

he should lurk over to the CS thread then.

Yeah. I remember that when M@tt started posting to ILM I was awestruck, because I had been *obsessed* with Game Informer a few years earlier.

I have cut back to just reading edge nowadays. pricey if you have to import from the UK, but worth it.

I got PC-Zone for a few years (duped into subscripton by cute girl offering free games at a LAN tourny) and quite enjoyed it until it became overrun with MMORPG hype. It has a good section on online gaming and a fairly good hardware/troubleshooting section. I should really check it again.

I still occasionally buy OPS2M but only if I fancy something on the demo disk.
