http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v81/plechazunga/ilx/ff7-yuffie2sm.jpg Discounting sports games cos I haven't been good at them since Madden 95, what're the best titles that feature peeps and characters from other media?

I shall start!

GoldenEye

Not all the Star Wars Games are good, that Imperial Command or whatever RTS was by all accounts terrible. Though Starfighter was great and underpraised, which should make up for it. And of course KOTOR.

D: The Wallace and Gromit game.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 19 September 2005 00:20 (twenty years ago)

most of the star wars games are ass. Rebel Assualt 1 & 2 was only good at selling cd-rom drives in 1993.

Force Commander, Rebellion, Obi Wan, and countless other SW games were complete shovel-ware, only with access to official ben burtt sound effects.

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 19 September 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

Die Hard Trilogy for the PSX did have its moments, tho

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 19 September 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

Definitely, the Die Harder segment was fantastic.

The Megadrive versions of FIFA were brilliant (especially 95, with the PUNCHING) and of course Micro Machines. Codemasters also did a very good Pete Sampras game too.

melton mowbray (adr), Monday, 19 September 2005 09:18 (twenty years ago)

i'm reminded of how everybody's excited for the Warriors game. The problem is, you can have the coolest, absofuckinglutelingest awesome license in history, and if its a shit game, still no one will buy it. case in point, remember everyone getting excited about Fight Club?

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 05:37 (twenty years ago)

Not particularly. That Matrix game, though..

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

lethal weapon (amiga)
batman (amiga)

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

the light-gun section of die hard (psx) was great

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

batman (amiga)

I was going to post the Megadrive version upthread. The music on the first level is incredible. Come to think about it, all the games I played from the Batman franchise were good. Batman Returns is excellent, but I'm still terrible at it. It seems the more you enjoy a level on that game, the harder you find it (ie. the one where you're in a derelict house that's on a slant, with clowns on unicycles).

melton mowbray (adr), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

The Spiderman games before the film were supposed to be quite good. The game of Spiderman2 the film is also nice, though mostly because of Bruce Campbell.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

The only ones I've got, are for the Gameboy and the Master System, and they're both pretty shocking. There was a great one for the Megadrive though, were you had to infiltrate the Kingpin's base taking photos, before going all Spidey and beating them up.

Oh, and another one, where you were Spiderman and Venom, and you walked up a long road beating up punks Streets of Rage style. I've got a rom of it somewhere, I think it might have something to do with Rampage in the name in the US, but a different name over here.

melton mowbray (adr), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

terminator 2 (gameboy) (if you can get past the choresome first level and the difficult puzzles on the following there are some great passages in this game, like the drive through the drains on t2's harley, t1000 chasing)

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

also robocop (amiga)

it was ocean who did a lot these right?

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

yeah ocean rocked the film licenses hard. i remember my dad playing this isometric batman game back in the day where you had to go around and collect parts of his utility belt.

rio natsume, Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

I've got that on Amstrad! It's the awesomest awesome.

melton mowbray (adr), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, yes, the two spiderman games on the PlayStation was what I was referring to.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

Oh right! I've not played either of them, but I'll keep an eye out. I've not played a new superhero game in ages!

melton mowbray (adr), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

Batman for NES was really good too.

Dan I., Tuesday, 20 September 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

Uncle Fester's Quest...i dunno.

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

search search searsh: krusty's funhouse on the gameboy

rio natsume, Tuesday, 20 September 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

Make that megadrive too! Best Simpsons game of the lot. (except perhaps the arcade)

melton mowbray (adr), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

oh i didn't realise it was out on the megadrive. what was the arcade one, bart vs the space mutants?

rio natsume, Tuesday, 20 September 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

Addams Family Pinball

Ha my step dad bought this for his house. my step dad kicks ass! (You are talking about the actual table and not a video game representation?)

Most bond titles sucked.
I enjoyed Alien trilogy on the Saturn, most people i hear hated it.
Simpsons arcade when it was first released blew me away, now its just meh.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 22 September 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

(You are talking about the actual table

yup.

also, 4-person X-men Arcade was great, too, for its time.

oh yeah, STAR TREK Arcade. I LOVED that game, with its spinny targetting-reticle and vector graphics...

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 22 September 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

The Star Trek 25th Anniversary adventure game was great. There was a sequel that I liked less.

adam (adam), Thursday, 22 September 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

Tron was good up to a point, see 'I give up' thread.

i have a jillion XMen roms on my xbox mame, although all seem similar they are incredible to look at with all zippy-omg-what-did-you-just-kill-me-with moves.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 22 September 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

the first Xmen NES game, which i came very, very close to buying, was absolute shit. Oh look, here's an overhead veiw of Wolverine!

the two Xmen PC games were a mix of action and adventure elements.

also, the spider-man pc from '92 or so was fun.

OH OH! the Spiderman game for Atari 2600! "Zip! Zooooooooop! Zip! Zooooooooop!" etc

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 22 September 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

melton mowbray (adr), Thursday, 22 September 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

Oh bollocks, I didn't want them to be the same image. It was a proper beat'em up, Streets of Rage style.

melton mowbray (adr), Thursday, 22 September 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

The X-Men action/RPG thing that came out like a year ago is actually pretty good.

The Yellow Kid, Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

is that the xmen one for the gamecube? i have been very tempted by it.

jeffrey (johnson), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I've only played the first, but it's pretty fun - it's best if you have other people to play with, because it's co-op with up to 4 players.

The Yellow Kid, Friday, 23 September 2005 01:29 (twenty years ago)

Alien Trilogy for Playstation

the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game was the first videogame i beat, ever.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 23 September 2005 06:25 (twenty years ago)

Alien Vs Predator arcade was pretty fun, and the Aliens arcade even moreso...

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 23 September 2005 06:26 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah! the capcom AVP game was really cool, it almost made me wish they'd done an avp fighting game. or maybe not, lol.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 23 September 2005 06:31 (twenty years ago)

also, AvsP 2 gold was great. the expansion wasn't. lots of fun freaky bits with the motion detectors. "where the FUCK is it, man! oh shit, getitoffgetitoffgetitoff"

tho they feel the need to do the "you lose all your weapons" thing on this one, too. right after you get a smartgun, even.

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 23 September 2005 06:34 (twenty years ago)

I loved the AvP arcade. All the characters were rub except for the main predator, who was amazing! I've not played the Aliens one, I'll check it out on MAME.

melton mowbray (adr), Friday, 23 September 2005 08:25 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and Mickey Mouse - World of Illusion on the Megadrive is genius, one of the best games on the system. It's a shame all the other Mickey games are so fiendishly difficult.

melton mowbray (adr), Friday, 23 September 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

i remember the aliens arcade bowling me over when it first came out, i was an avid alien fan at the time. but playing it on mame recently it was a bit yuk.

does anyone remember the old 'alien' game on the speccy? you had to change between characters and move around the ship by way of a map on screen. you even had to catch the cat before you could escape. some good tension in it if i recall.

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 23 September 2005 08:32 (twenty years ago)

Ducktales for the NES and the Donald Duck game for Genesis was fun.

The Aliens game for the Apple ][gs was kinda good, too, if a bit klunky.

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 23 September 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

alien 3 (SNES)

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 23 September 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

The Aliens Vs. Predator sidescroller arcade game was the best! Never ported, now lost to history, and probably the only good game with either of those characters ever.

antexit (antexit), Friday, 23 September 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

i think the AvP scroller has a mame out somewhere.

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 23 September 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

I've downloaded one and played it through, and it's perfect. If anyone wants, I'll YSI.

melton mowbray (adr), Friday, 23 September 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

Ch-ch-ch-chip and Dale, Rescue Rangers! (for the NES)

OTM! I seem to remember a good/simple Mickey Mouse platformer for NES and the Chip and Dale game was awesome.
