So is it good? Got it for Christmas off my brother and intend to finally dive into it today, with the next few days off.

Any tips for my first foray?

I am having major directx problems and it won't work! grrr!

seems to be a common problem with windows, something about the necessary cabinet cannot be trusted when I try to install the latest direct x.

I didnt have any direct x problems, but I had a problem that involved the goddamn cds being mislabeled. I thought I was going to have to crack it so I could play it like I did with Warcraft 3.

I read in some interview that they were considering the possibility of Civ4 for mobile platforms. I think that would be the ultimate life destroyer.

I am waiting for the Mac port, unless I crack before then. The only date I've heard is 'early 2006', but the company that is allegedly porting the game doesn't even mention it on their website...

so, I bought a new pc in November, with a shiny new nvidia graphics card. It still crashes the fucker occasionally though - twice yesterday which was most frustrating

got Civ 4 COMPLETE at the big steam sale last month---it's pretty great! At least the tutorial level was, with a small map and terrible AI in which I crushed my opponent without having to make many decisions.
