When was the last time you actually read a game manual?

If i get a game, I'm gunna dump that shit in and start a tutorial(at the most), I ain't gunna read that book, unless I'm on the terlet or somethin'.

I think the last manual I flipped thru was the PDFs for AOE3, just 'coz I liked the production/design art.

What about you?

I had an answer for this, and then you went and took it away with "unless I'm on the terlet or somethin'.".

Honestly though, I don't very often read them before playing the game, but will do if I get stuck or think I'm being a n00b and missing the point of something completely.

On the other hand, I'm absolutely obsessive about owning the things. If a used game doesn't have either the box or manual, it's absolutely worthless.

I looked at the one for Shadow of the Colossus because it had a whimsical presentation. Jump! Swim! Ride! Stand on your horse, which you will never ever have to do!

All the info is duplicated in-game, of course.

I always read them because somebody keeps stealing my fucking Economist off the front steps and I don't like taking whole books to the turlit when it's sit-down time

GTA LCS, which I found more entertaining than the game. The articles in it are written by people with names like "Frenchie Cockmaven."

We Love Katamari, of course.

Yep, Katamari for me too, just this morning. Does the US manual have the thing where instead of having actual screenshots in the manual, they use crayon-drawn reproductions of game screens? It's really cute.

Simcity4 RushHour - its a game that really needs one of those full on Prima strategy guide books. So many tricks and layers and graphs and examples to help one make better cities and run 'em well. Its more a reference manual than anything, and you wouldnt read it start to finish or anything daft, but like a coding manual or suchlike, it really did help! Also, I read it on the tram, but then again I am a dork.

Embarassingly Mario Kart DS. I couldn't figure out the slide with the sparks thing. But before that it must have been at best a game for my Amiga like 10years ago or something. I never read the things. I still don't know how to stand on my horse on Shadow of the Colossus, but it never really seemed necessary anyway.

Most if not all newer games have some kind of in-game help, which is how it should be. Though I do tend to flick through manuals for kicks.
