2. There is no way on Earth this imbecile is going to come up with an online service that "beats Xbox Live."
3. Sony is like the absolute worst company on Earth when it comes to proprietary content distribution. I mean #1 already covers this, but based on the PSP, is the PS3 supposed to be a set-top entertainment center for the 22nd century and beyond, or a game console?
4. The hardware is "barely better than the 360" but will arrive a year later and with an even bigger pricetag, by all accounts.
5. The controller has yet to be finalized. Meaning all games are being programmed for the dual shock II.
6. Actually the hardware design isn't finalized either, since it's apparently not yet possible to fit everything into the case AND include a 2.5" HD.
7. pick out one title from this list that could make it worth buying this machine at launch (Gradius 3 = comedy gold?)
8. Blu-ray read speed (load time) is evidently not that much greater than current DVD. Additionally, games are being developed for 10x DVD load times anyway. So between this tidbit and #5, what exactly does this thing do that my PS2 doesn't?
Once again stalled out @ #8. Is Sony ready to die?

Nintendo's already shown a willingness to port the japanesiest of their systems' games to N.A. and a pretty unmatchable level of skill and care in localization.
I seriously doubt that the otaku market is enough to keep this one alive.

No nonvolatile memory storage - No unified online service - Only supports the next-gen standard that MSFT REFUSES to get behind and that everyone else is straddling the fence on, waiting to see what the real wholesale costs are going to be - No "killer app."
Treading on thin ice with that price point. There's a certain class of people in this world who are willing to pay that kind of premium for something based on brand alone instead of functionality, and they don't play video games.

Two obvious points: The weird cool games wouldn't be on that list up top anyway, because at this stage of course it's only Sequel VI: The Subtitle, and other stuff that makes me want to die. Also what's pointedly not on the list is GTA. If Rockstar decide that the 360 is the way to go, then Sony probably are completely fucked.

Messrs. vague, Farrell, and bloomer have sort of made Reggie Fils-Aime's point (which is also mine) about the PS3 - in a market which shows all signs of shrinking, not growing, how can a company hope to recoup the expense of developing and marketing a new piece of bleeding-edge tech (which itself is a loss leader designed to create sales of blu-ray "content" and even more expensive games) when they are only playing to their current customer base (and only a fraction of that, since DDR works fine on the old model)?
I mean we're talking about a PORTION of the installed base of PS2 users buying the new console at what purports to be very significant expense, just to purchase one or optimistically TWO game titles a year. The fate of the PS3 at this point seems to very emphatically hinge on the adoption of blu-ray as the next-generation media standard that everybody needs to replace their DVDs with, and I'm not buying it, at all.
$20 says the 360 will still have more interoperability with the PSP than the PS3 when it comes out.

Launch titles and console success have very little to do with one another, especially if you use the Dreamcast as any indication. I guess the thing I'm really trying to bring home is that Sony's "Sequel XVII: The Subtitle" launch selection doesn't bode well for the machine's lifetime. I guess if you can keep FF, MGS and GTA on your platform for initial release you have a solid base, but one slip and you're toast. $500 is a lot of money to most folks.

― we gotta move these refrigerators (CaptainLorax), Saturday, 31 March 2012 17:39 (thirteen years ago)
Ste - It sounds like you have an audio setting wrong. What kind of set-up do you have? I'm going to guess you have the ps3 outputting blu-ray audio for 7.1 or 5.1 audio set-up, while you're actually putting the sound through regular tv stereo speakers or a more basic stereo - or vice-versa. I don't have a ps3 in front of me, but I'm sure in the settings there is a place to adjust the blu-ray audio output so that it matches whatever your system can best support. The other thing could be your stereo receiver isn't set up balanced correctly, if you have one.
― JCL, Saturday, 31 March 2012 17:42 (thirteen years ago)
yeah its just a basic tv system speaker. what should i have the setting as. on the actual blu ray i've tried both 4:1 and 5:1 (default) but to be honest i couldn't notice the difference. i'll have a look in the ps3 settings on the menu, when i've finished watching this film!
― PSOD (Ste), Saturday, 31 March 2012 18:02 (thirteen years ago)
ya it should have nothing to do with the ps3 but the way bluray discs are mixed and mastered.
tv is mixed for tv: everything compressed and loud and upfront. blurays and dvds tend to be mixed more like movies in the cinema: lots more dynamic range, dialogue usually in the center channel, etc.
can you change the audio output settings from 5.1 to just stereo? that should help.
― A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Saturday, 31 March 2012 21:13 (thirteen years ago)
I had the same problem, but it was caused by my AV amp; it has different dynamic range compression modes. I cycled through those til it sounded normal. It's still not perfect but way better than it used to be
― CraigG, Sunday, 1 April 2012 10:21 (thirteen years ago)

In Story Mode, the player plays through missions centered around various animals. Eventually, the player will discover the truth behind mankind's disappearance.[2] A Pomeranian dog and thoroughbred racehorse are key characters in the story.[1]
In Survival Mode, the player takes control of an animal and fight for survival against other animals for as long as possible. Tokyo Jungle has online leaderboards so the players can compare their survival skills against one another[1]. Smaller animals will fight in groups, and the player's group can win fights against larger animals by just having one of the group survives the fight[2].
The player will have to build up a pack of animals. This is easier for some plant eaters, which means the player may not necessarily be at a disadvantage even if a weaker type was chosen[2].
There are 50 breeds and 80 types of animals to be expected[2]. Animals confirmed for Tokyo Jungle include lion, crocodile, tiger, giraffe, hippo, cheetah, chimpanzee, gazelle, chicken, beagle, tyrannosaurus, hyena, and fox[1]. As the player plays through the game, additional playable animals will be unlocked[2].

Pomeranian dogRan out of pet food, the Pomeranian dog now has to fend for itself in a now-wild-and-vicious Tokyo.
Thoroughbred racehorseWith its passion for running still burns, the Thoroughbred racehorse runs around Tokyo, searching for its old track rivals in hopes of staging one more race.
