T/S: SSX vs SSX Tricky vs SSX3 vs SSX whatever!

I'd have to pick SSX Tricky out of all these, for the improvements to the game, and without the shitty wank and garbage soundtrack/ads that pervaded SSX3.

Also, I think I sold my copy to hstencil.

Your pick?

I don't get the appeal of these games. The racing is worse than most racing related games, and the tricks are worse than most trick games (Tony Hawk, for example). Plus it has all this HEY DUDE SO EXTREME! bullshit.

I dunno. I just really liked them, and I loved that you could go off-track and ski most places on teh mountain.

I've only ever played SSX Tricky, but I remember that being a pretty awesome game. I like the fact that it's so fake. It's more fantasy than X-TREME BROBOARDING bullshit. Also, Run DMC saying it's tricky over and over surprisingly never got annoying.

SSX is the reason i bought my PS2 having played a friend's copy of the original and being impressed by the feeling of speed. Tricky was out when i finally bought mine so i got that instead. Have 3 and 1 also (Tricky is so much easier than 1 to the point that i finished it, gold on all courses for all characters). didn't like what they did to 3 (more graphical realism?)

koogs (koogs), Monday, 27 February 2006 19:06 (twenty years ago)

didn't like what they did to 3

more shitty adverts, like Honda element, or dnL, or Yellowcard.

kingfish has gene rayburn's mic (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 27 February 2006 19:41 (twenty years ago)

not sure we had those in the UK. is that possible?

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 11:41 (twenty years ago)

Did the UK version have any shitty product placement? the US version was loaded with it

had a quick bash last night (after not touching it for over a year) and there are adverts in there but they don't really register, if that's possible. the only obvious one is for 7up which, for some reason, looks to be upside down. there are others but they are very muted colours and aren't for recognisable products (one just says 'Peel', another has a cartoon van on it and letters i can't make out). there's also a 4x4 on a podium after the finish line but it's only ever far background. it's like they put adverts in because people would expect adverts to be there. oh, there are also announcements before the races 'This race sponsored by...' but i don't recognise any of the names. one of them may have been Pantene, oddly enough.

one year passes...

i just bough ssx blur for the wii.
fun time galore.

funny farm, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 04:31 (eighteen years ago)

I bought SSX On Tour (aka SSX4) in the HMV sale for £3.99 the other day, but I haven't played it yet. Of the previous versions I think I like the first one best.

WTF from wikipedia entry
The GameCube version differs from other versions since there is an exclusive track called Nintendo Village, and Nintendo characters Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach are available as playable characters. In the Japanese GameCube version, Peach's butt jiggles when she lands from jumps, and she also has thong underwear. This was edited out of the North American and European release.

onimo, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 11:06 (eighteen years ago)

ff- good luck with ssx blur - I found it pretty frustrating and lacking in fun. I was never able to get off the first mountain(!) - mainly because the slalom races were impossible and the other stuff quickly became repetitive and boring. Luckily I was able to trade back in the game for an ok return

Jeff LeVine, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

four years pass...

i got the new one on xbox. weirdly, although EA makes you sign up for their Ridernet junk, it pulls directly from your console friends list... annoying because the other person i know who got this is on PS3. LET'S DO THIS MORDY

still, pretty good stuff so far. kinda hit and miss with the track design and deadly descents, as the reviews indicated, but overall i'm enjoying it

Nhex, Sunday, 25 March 2012 18:05 (thirteen years ago)

oh shit, it's on! i've been playing the fuck out it since i got it last week. are we friends on 360 already?

Mordy, Sunday, 25 March 2012 19:08 (thirteen years ago)

Euler, Sunday, 25 March 2012 19:10 (thirteen years ago)

Nhex, Monday, 26 March 2012 05:29 (thirteen years ago)

Mordy, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 02:19 (thirteen years ago)

Nhex, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 02:45 (thirteen years ago)

thomasintrouble, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 09:23 (thirteen years ago)

Mordy, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 13:25 (thirteen years ago)

apropos of nothing in particular my flatmate, who has never previously displayed any inclination towards videogames, said last night "let's get ssx". so i just did.

i remember when there was time for klax (ledge), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 09:04 (thirteen years ago)

i lent my copy of (PS2) tricky to a friend who then moved flat... not seen it since.

koogs, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 10:54 (thirteen years ago)

xp on the 360?

Mordy, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 14:28 (thirteen years ago)

yup, idk if we're friends already, am reg delmot if not.

i remember when there was time for klax (ledge), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 14:31 (thirteen years ago)

won't be starting it till next week tho.

i remember when there was time for klax (ledge), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 14:38 (thirteen years ago)

i won't be playing for more than a week anyway (until the 14th or 15th at the earliest).

Mordy, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 14:41 (thirteen years ago)

this game makes me feel old

ledge, Thursday, 12 April 2012 13:15 (thirteen years ago)

i'll be back to set some huge trick records on tuesday!

Mordy, Thursday, 12 April 2012 14:20 (thirteen years ago)

haha, i still have to nail all your other ones!

Nhex, Thursday, 12 April 2012 16:59 (thirteen years ago)

I could do with more 360 friends on this, have been having great fun competing against the one I do have. My tag is iforry72.

if, Sunday, 15 April 2012 21:01 (thirteen years ago)

am clearly gonna need a few more hours of practice to approach some of the trick scores here. any hints/tips? what kind of combo numbers are y'all stacking up? still not sure i understand the multiplier system either.

Touché Gödel (ledge), Monday, 16 April 2012 08:51 (thirteen years ago)

better to get fewer big tricks that multiple short ones, since it's easy to raise the multiplier to max, as far as i can tell... correct me if i'm wrong

also bear in mind that there's a little XP grinding involved, as you get better gear/mods with higher levels on your character. though it doesn't really raise your points as much as make your combos easier to maintain, and you're basically gonna have to maintain a single combo through your whole run to place

Nhex, Wednesday, 18 April 2012 04:12 (thirteen years ago)

multibillion point trick scores
i scored so many points that the point dial went off the side of my tv
and started displaying the points in the oxygen of my livingroom

Mordy, Monday, 30 April 2012 19:05 (thirteen years ago)

ledge. YOU!

Nhex, Monday, 30 April 2012 23:35 (thirteen years ago)

idk, last time i fired it up my mojo had vanished.

Touché Gödel (ledge), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 08:28 (thirteen years ago)

Races: all mojo all the time. Tricks: no mojo. Srsly my trick scores have dropped by half.

Touché Gödel (ledge), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:33 (thirteen years ago)

quite the opposite for me, i gotta struggle for ages to top a race score, but i'll randomly jackpot on trick runs after enough tries. still feel like i'm missing something essential about how the combo system works, besides "don't bail, ever"

Nhex, Thursday, 3 May 2012 19:00 (thirteen years ago)

I did lol when I got a medal for my records withstanding 50 challenges.

Oh and I hate hate hate zombies with jetpacks.

Touché Gödel (ledge), Thursday, 3 May 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)

i know right? that's with the tough first half where you gotta not fall off the left side of the mountain, then the second easy part with the red pipes, right?

Nhex, Thursday, 3 May 2012 20:01 (thirteen years ago)

right! basically i can't steer and do tricks at the same time.

Touché Gödel (ledge), Thursday, 3 May 2012 21:04 (thirteen years ago)
