ive bought one for 160 plus postage from ebay but am now having second thoughts. i might sell it when it arrives. it seems too much. how much do you guys think it would be when it goes on sale in the uk/us?

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 19:49 (twenty years ago)

160 whats?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 20:19 (twenty years ago)

I think you should pay what you think it's worth.

A Van That's Loaded With Weapons (noodle vague), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 21:01 (twenty years ago)

I've had a play with one, expecting to be unimpressed, and OMG, it's a DS, only cuter, and with a REALLY REALLY FUCKING GOOD SCREEN! Like, a PSP quality screen. With detail, and vibrant colours, and high contrast.

So yeah, they're probably worth more than you think, and I bet you change your mind about reselling it once you've got your hands on it.

Still, UK retail will be no more than current UK normal DS retail price, I betcha. They'll just release these and drop the price of the old ones. That's what they always do. They'd struggle to get away with anything else.

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 00:40 (twenty years ago)

Why does Nintendo keep making me want things when I already give them so much money?

Laura H. (laurah), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 06:26 (twenty years ago)

lik-sang have them for the equivalent of £113.88, but they're on a back order and you'd have to wait for stock to arrive.

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 06:34 (twenty years ago)

it arrived today. im not opening it as its on sale on ebay. i hope someone buys it soon. i cant afford to be spending 180 pounds (inc postage) on a handheld at the moment.....

it looks so good though!

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 11:35 (twenty years ago)

180 pounds???

zounds!

antexit (antexit), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 17:10 (twenty years ago)

i know i feel like a bit of a mug. but they seem to go for about 150 on average. thats why someone needs to hurry up and buy it off me.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 17:11 (twenty years ago)

That seems like a lot of trouble to go through to not have a DS. I mean, I'm doing that shit right now.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 17:16 (twenty years ago)

what shit? not having a DS?

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 19:13 (twenty years ago)

Uh huh.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 19:23 (twenty years ago)

Waitaminute. I paid $170AUD for the DS I bought Nick. I assumed the DS lite was called what it is because it is made with a cheaper lighter cover and stuff and thus would cost less.

Does it cost MORE? Cos in that case eff that, I'm buying a normal one.

Trayce is not a guy! (trayce), Thursday, 6 April 2006 04:45 (twenty years ago)

Ah on reading wiki, it seems the price got inflated due to massive demand/selling out in Japan.

Trayce is not a guy! (trayce), Thursday, 6 April 2006 04:49 (twenty years ago)

The normal DS is too small for my hands. LOL XBOX IS HUEG?

Fight the Real Enemy -- Tasti D-Lite (ex machina), Thursday, 6 April 2006 05:14 (twenty years ago)

Ah, Nintendo. The one place where being a girly with little hands has teh advantag0r when it comes to controller size and such.

Trayce is not a guy! (trayce), Thursday, 6 April 2006 05:31 (twenty years ago)

I've never really had a problem before (I thought I had small hands), but the DS just hasn't sat right in my hands for me ever.

Fight the Real Enemy -- Tasti D-Lite (ex machina), Thursday, 6 April 2006 05:53 (twenty years ago)

Gamefocus in London are trying to sell them for £230

actionjackson (actionjackson), Thursday, 6 April 2006 10:49 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, the DS really isn't playing well with my fingers.

Yeah the one-color-at-a-time shit is pretty lame. GIVE US TEAL. THE LADY WANTS TEAL.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

Dudes seriously the DS PHAT in teal or pink with nintendogs bundle is now going for fucking $230-430 on amazon. people are insane.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

dammit. july? I wanted to get one to take w/ me on my trip next month.

kingfish doesn't live here anymore (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

It says June! Which means just in time for when I go to that European jazz festival. I'll just have to settle for white.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

oh shit, it does say june. Hmm.

kingfish doesn't live here anymore (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 4 May 2006 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

I'll probably see about trading my DS in towards a Lite when they come out if only for the screen upgrade, which apparently is a godsend with regards to the Metroid FPS. Apparently I am the only person on earth who actually wants a white one (to match my iPod! God, I've turned into lamentable yuppie scum at age 25).

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Thursday, 4 May 2006 23:07 (nineteen years ago)

Saw one at BestBuy this weekend - as I was admiring it, a blue-shirt person noticed it wasn't secured in any way to the metal "don't-steal-this" clamps and took it away. Alas. I still like my cobalt blue DS just fine.

I just talked someone I know out of buying an import DS as opposed to waiting for the US release because it was impractical, so why am I actually considering buying a Lite when I already have a DS? I need that like a hole in the head.

They are so pretty.

Isn't there a music type game that records stuff with the mic?

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 10 June 2006 19:08 (nineteen years ago)

So it's Operation DS?

I got mine today (plus Mario). :>

(it's great)

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 12 June 2006 00:58 (nineteen years ago)

I'm kinda intrigued by Trauma Center.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

It seems like the speakers a really quiet on the DS Lite, way moreso than the GBA. I picked up Electroplankton and, unless I'm in a silent room, it seems like headphones are almost required.

Is the DS Phat the same?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't notice much of a difference between phat and lite.

I saw a black DS lite for sale yesterday, but expensivo.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 June 2006 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

Btw, GBA and DS power adapters apparently do not work with Euro voltage converters/adapters for some reason. Is to cry.

Er, yeah they do. I use a japanese machine with a japanese charger via a step down transformer here in the UK all the time.

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 6 July 2006 10:23 (nineteen years ago)

Well, mine didn't.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 6 July 2006 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

I called customer service, it looks like I most likely plugged it into the wrong kind of charger and fried it. I'm sending it in for repairs by a skilled team of Nintendologists.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 6 July 2006 16:56 (nineteen years ago)

That should be Nintendoctors, sorry.

We wanted to let you know that your components are being shipped back to
you.

the first regular ds i bought was wonky, i had to bring it back. kept shutting off for no reason!

Every time I drop my DS or knock it off of a table (which fortunately doesn't happen very often) I think of your video of a poorly, cranky one :(

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Monday, 17 July 2006 18:14 (nineteen years ago)

I have to say, even though I was pissed about the DS getting fried so easily, the customer service was great.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 17 July 2006 18:30 (nineteen years ago)

my video of a poorly cranky one? huh?

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 17 July 2006 19:43 (nineteen years ago)

I was pissed about the DS getting fried so easily

Easily? Dude, give them a break, you plugged a 110 volt appliance into a 240 volt supply. You'd get fried!

(Sorry, but I used to work in a videogames shop where people would do this all the time, then come back to us and try to claim it was our fault and that we owed them a refund).

JimD (JimD), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 08:26 (nineteen years ago)

I have to say, even though I was pissed about the DS getting fried so easily, the customer service was great.

I've read loads of good things about Nintendo customer service lately! This is quite good, and there's better in the comments - http://www.jacobian.org/2006/jul/10/bad-dog/

my video of a poorly cranky one? huh?

Perhaps it was another ILGer, but there was a video of a DS that flickered on/off/on/off all the time, making nasty noises.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 09:21 (nineteen years ago)

Easily? Dude, give them a break, you plugged a 110 volt appliance into a 240 volt supply. You'd get fried!

I'm not even sure that's what the supply was, though. Another dude was charging is iPod with it all week, and my friend's GBA SP didn't work with it but didn't get fried.

Anyway it actually came showed up in the mail yesterday and works great.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 11:55 (nineteen years ago)

different devices can handle different voltages. i think apple makes all their stuff so that it can go easily back and forth b/w european and american power. but you gotta watch out for that shit!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

PLAY SAFE.

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not even sure that's what the supply was, though.

Sheesh. I don't want to get excessively harsh here, but if you're going around plugging things into outlets without even checking what comes out of them first, you're very lucky you haven't had everything fried, including your fingers.

Still, it's fixed now, so that's all good.

JimD (JimD), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

I guess I just assumed that the Best Buy-bought converter/adapter would not break my shit and/or kill me!

Anyway, lesson learned, etc.
