ps2 etc online

i almost bought a wireless receiver for the ps2 this weekend but it was really expensive and i really dont know what the advantage is of playing online, besides playing random people. does anyone here play their games online? any reason to recommend it?

i think out of what we have, all the tony hawks since THUG, DDR2, and all the sport type games: madden, MLB etc. Im not sure what else is available.

The new Metal Gear has lots of online deathmatch/team battle modes that look really fun. But PS2 never quite caught up with Xbox in this way, right?

i dont know, but i dont think so. the alternatives are to switch to xbox (wont happen) or wait for ps3 (which looks kind of retarded)or get a psp (possible).

Well, i gather that most of the online options for the PS2 games you metnion are access to scoreboards and stuff, which me personally I couldn't care less about. i don't know if there are any PS2 games that have XBOX-level deathmatch stuff.
