Old Games you gave up on and you load up now, only to switch them off again after the first few minutes

...because you realise, once you start playing, exactly why you never bothered with it in the first place.

Warriors - punch kick punch kick etc, fiddly bits picking locks etc, where's the fucking 'game' !?!

Colin McRae 3 - awful slippery road handling that looks crap compared the first game

True Crime LA - just everything about it really

I'm sure I have more, I'll try and remember.

Metal Gear Solid 3 - Can't be bothered crawling around the Jungle Or reading endless radio chatter. Maybe it gets good, but I 'play' for about an hour and only get to control my dude for about 15mins of that.

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Thursday, 13 April 2006 08:52 (twenty years ago)

SimCity2000 - I wanted to get retro and hear all the midi choons again, but after a few minutes the griddy blocky plonking of roads and zones felt so crappy crap crap compared to SC4 I gave up.

Still love the midi choons tho.

MGS - I had the same issue with the second game to be honest, I had it switched on for a good couple of hours but couldn't remember actually playing anything all that challenging in that time.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 13 April 2006 08:58 (twenty years ago)

This thread is all about nintendogs and animal crossing for me. There was a feeling of "surely there must be more to it that this? Everybody else thinks it's great...I must be missing something" which kept me going back to them time and time again, even though each time I tried I'd last ten minutes before switching off.

MGS3 is old??? --- lol newbz
Sc4 was GARBAGE, Trayce.

NES Kung Fu

Not "old", but Minish Cap. It's a cool game and all, but I got bored at some point and now I can't remember where anything is or what I'm supposed to be looking for.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 13 April 2006 17:26 (twenty years ago)

Ninja Gaiden 3. For some reason, it just never goes as well as 1 and 2.

Laura H. (laurah), Thursday, 13 April 2006 17:33 (twenty years ago)

ZAXXON. The controls suck and the perspective makes it pretty hard to tell exactly where your ship is (i.e. you Crash Into Things and Die a Lot)

sleep (sleep), Thursday, 13 April 2006 18:47 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure the ZAXXON board game is different story, though. An awesome story.

sleep (sleep), Thursday, 13 April 2006 18:53 (twenty years ago)

Ha, I'll play Ninja Gaiden 1 every couple of years, get to the same level I did as a kid, and die die die. As far as I'm concerned, that's the end of the game.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 13 April 2006 18:57 (twenty years ago)

I had the PacMan board game and, I think, Berzerk (was there really one?) They were crap.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Thursday, 13 April 2006 22:19 (twenty years ago)

Kung Fu? That game is awesome.

A precendent was kinda set by the initial post with Colin McRae 3. I took it to mean games you have owned for a while, which makes MGS3 a valid one, no?

If you want "old" games:
Jet Set Willy - I just never 'got' that game, I just jumped about a bit never quite knowing what my aim was.

Any Sonic game - I get about 2 levels in then just remember it's no Mario Bros and pop SMB3 on instead.

Low G Man - It's just shit, but one of my friends loved it SO much when we were kids that I always give it a shot to see if I missed something. I don't think I did.

Sc4 was GARBAGE, Trayce.

Depends how you played it - the original non-RushHour version, and the MAC port (when it eventually came out) were both terrible. But the RH expansion and a shitstack of really well made mods have made the game really playable.

S'there ;P

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 02:06 (twenty years ago)

I ONLY LIKE TO PAY FOR A GAME ONCE DUDE.

Fight the Real Enemy -- Tasti D-Lite (ex machina), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 13:44 (twenty years ago)

WRECKING CREW. WHY IS IT ALL ABOUT TIMING + PUZZLES INSTEAD OF "WRECKING" FUCK.
admittedly this was years and years ago when the sentiment applied but this thread didn't exist yet. backlog on applicable titles here goes back years.
JOURNEY TO SILIUS. fucking sucked at that too.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 20 April 2006 12:11 (twenty years ago)

Colin McRae 3 and all the other modern driving games like the GTAs with fake driver perspectives (to show off the fancy 3d graphics, they swing the camera angle up around and behind the car in curves and stuff) make me literally (as in not figuratively) sick to my stomach. I don't get sick in real cars. Some of the newer skatebording games do this to me as well -- am I alone?

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 20 April 2006 15:03 (twenty years ago)

No we had some threads like that! FPS games typically make me queasy after a few minutes, especially in the more claustrophobic maps.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 20 April 2006 16:46 (twenty years ago)

Can't you set the camera in GTA to "in-car" or whatever?

The Yellow Kid, Thursday, 20 April 2006 17:40 (twenty years ago)

Max Pyne 1 isn't as much fun after a 3 year break.
