Secret of Evermore. For thirty bucks, this better be as good as Secret of Mana.

Laura H. (laurah), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, it's not.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

The dude behind the counter said it wasn't good, but I heard positive reviews elsewhere so I took a chance. Mostly, because I so badly want to play a Square RPG for SNES that I haven't played.

Laura H. (laurah), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:56 (twenty years ago)

Guardian Heroes Advance and Lufia for the GBA. Lufia seems kind of crappy.

adam (adam), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

it's better than secret of mana.

rio natsume, Wednesday, 21 September 2005 00:16 (twenty years ago)

In early summer of last year, i discovered that the local EB Games sold used PC titles. Oooooh that was not the best thing for me to find out about...

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

Good to hear, rio. I'm going to go play it now and see if the man behind the counter was right to laugh at me or not.

Laura H. (laurah), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 00:33 (twenty years ago)

To be honest, I've spent the last month buying things I should already have had, or used to have and don't seem to anymore (Nes: Balloon Fight, Double Dragon, TMNT. SNES: Starwing, Super Mario World). I've not got anything rare or exciting recently, but I got quite excited when I found a 32X for a couple of quid, and a boxed Street Fighter 2 Turbo SNES in tip-top condition for under a tenner.

I've bought a lot of megadrive junk too, but only in my quest to own every game that exists for this badboy.

melton mowbray (adr), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

Pirates! Gold, Genesis. It was only seven dollars at the same place that charged the scandalous thirty for Secret of Evermore. They also wanted $250 for P.T.O. II on the SNES, which is absolutely baffling to me.

Allen E. Riley (allenriley), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

resident evil 4 and a used GC. AWESOME

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 04:15 (twenty years ago)

super street fighter 2 turbo (and 2 snes advantage controllers)
smash tennis

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 04:58 (twenty years ago)

anyway, my last used game purchase: Anachronox, in this spring. Good times, clunky models, great writing. i got distracted and drifted away from it right as you begin the assault on the bad guy's HQ.

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 05:53 (twenty years ago)

I'll join with black nostalgia against my soul
And to myself become an enemy

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

Guardian Heroes for the Saturn was immense, i have no GBA but will check out this advance version emu1at0r style.

jeffrey (johnson), Thursday, 22 September 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

My wife bought me Grind Session the other day. THIS has been quite the flashback. It's amazing how some of the hard tech lines, like jumping from one rail to another, are so easy while doing something simple like "skate forward to hit the garbage can" can be so hard since you can't turn as smoothly as you can in the later Tony Hawk games.

It's cool hearing GZA again:

"Take cover with the radical, urban Latino
No Hip-Hop connection between us and Janet Reno!"

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 22 September 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

super castlevania IV (SNES)
NBA jam (SNES)
firepro wrestling returns (PS2)

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 24 September 2005 20:27 (twenty years ago)

i'm thinking of buying this

rio natsume, Saturday, 24 September 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

I've got one of those SNES converters, but have always avoided playing import games because they'll play about 17% slower on PAL machines due to the framerate difference between PAL and NTSC.

It only occurred to me today that I should be grateful for this and should play them more often, as I'm terrible at fast games and not in any particular hurry.

melton mowbray (adr), Saturday, 24 September 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

nes kickle cubicle + boy and his blob

Allen E. Riley (allenriley), Sunday, 25 September 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

tempted to get this

rio natsume, Sunday, 25 September 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

God, rio, I love that game SO MUCH.
Probably my favorite Mario game.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 25 September 2005 18:59 (twenty years ago)

Great game rio, the paper mario follow ups, same role-playing idea but for some strange but brilliant reason everyone is made of paper, on the N64 and cube are brilliant too.

What is Final Fantasy Tactics like?

~~~~ DODONGO DISLIKES SMOKE ~~~~ (ex machina), Monday, 26 September 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)
Woo! I got myself another boxed Megadrive 2 today, and a boxed Mega CD 2! A bunch of crummy games I mostly already had came with the Megadrive, but elsewhere I bought Streets of Rage 2. Today was all about the twos!
jeffrey (johnson), Monday, 10 October 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)
I went to get X-Men Legends used and couldn't find it.
HOWEVER EB is having a sale where X-Men Legends NEW is $10 through the 15th.
Guess what I played most of the day yesterday?
The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Monday, 10 October 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)
I am loving co-op X-Men Legends to an insane degree.
jeffrey (johnson), Monday, 10 October 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)
yoshi's island - pretty gutted I missed this for so long given how much I loved the original super mario world (SM2 > SMW = SM3 > SM1 lost levels > SM1) - sharp aesthetic and great colouring and animation... controls felt a bit springy to start, like my little yoshi was just too eager to reel back in the lost years but settled down into familiarity now
bushido blade - brilliance... the graphics just 'fit'... I hate PS1 graphics because they generally look like google maps satellite pics of grimsby but it totally suits the style here... plus the arenas are so extensive... there's nothing I've experience in fighting games over the years quite like both fighters running around the arena, parallel to each other, both tuning their instinct and ability in on the kill... the way the camera sweeps out to take it all in... it's like all those annoying 'wire-fu' moves but actually good because you get to control the fighters...
cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)
I take it you haven't got much into secret of evermore yet, laura, what with your telly trouble?
cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)
No. :( And I just figured out how to stop wandering endlessly around the initial village too. I'm getting the remote this weekend from my parents' house.
Laura H. (laurah), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)
