NCIS this week had two sailors taking their MMORPG fights into the real world. http://www.tv.com/ncis/the-immortals/episode/274457/summary.html The scenes (especially the dialogue) of the punky lab tech playing through levels was cringemaking. (the entire show is so derivative. "NCIS is that anything like CSI?", "Only if you're dislexic", you wish...)
Tony Hawk was in CSI a couple of months ago. was ok.
And this from a couple of weeks ago: http://www.nbc.com/Law_&_Order:_Criminal_Intent/episode_guide/55.shtmlwhich was more interesting if you realised that it was basically the ID Software story with added murderation. ...as well as buying items for an online game called Kingdom of Loathing (including "hell ramen")
Clue: if you don't want people to think you're a lazy fucking moron who isn't qualified to write for a church newsletter, TRY RESEARCH.

"Apparently it's OK to be a sports buff , a movie buff , or a food buff ... but being a games buff still somehow offends society. People prepared to conduct tedious 15-hour analytical conversations about football or Kieslowski or the best place to find balsamic vinegar will have the audacity to call you a nerd for mentioning anything more obscure than Grand Theft Auto. Well, fuck your snobbery."

yeah, but we've talked about this before, haven't we? the fact that modern video games sound like movies, so they use the 4-bit beep-bloop-blop sounds has a redundant shorthand to convey to dense and/or people that "yes we is playing the games"

CSI:NY Series 8 Episode 15 was set in the world of competitive video games. one bloke patched the code to make himself a smaller target and increase the size of the others. there was something else about legal highs. anyway, the most startling thing was they showed the code that the bloke had used for the patch:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7215/7156991304_390c498b6d.jpg
it's quite obviously just html, printed in a cursive font (why?). did nobody notice? and both sheets are the same...

You don't handwrite code before you type it in?

This, according to Eastenders, was what a videogame looked like in 2010.

I love how Phil Mitchell and his creepy son are playing it as if it's a two-player fighting game, when there's clearly only ever one player character on screen.

pshaw! Only n00bs handwrite their code. Real programmers use punch cards and punch the holes with their teeth.

(i have pages and pages of handwritten z80 assembly... and i'm not alone:

SVU is a hall of famer at hilarious video game depictions, between the hooker-beating GTA rip Tenacity (which totally hooked Fringe's Lincoln Lee) and the MMO obsessed South Korean parents becoming US trailer dwellers addicted to something that looked like a single-screen Dragon's Lair. Oh and that way early episode where Kragan brags to a murderous preteen baout how he made it all the way to level 14 and bagged himself a Gorgon.
