Do you pre-order games? Would you?

I never pre-order games, since I'm a cheap bastard, and always wait to get them used or they've had a few patches issued to fix things.

therefore, I never pre-order.

However, it strikes me that there are two games I would do this for:

1) Mother 3 (assuming I do get a DS lite this summer)
2) Fallout 3 (God knows when this is coming out. christmas 2007, probly)

How 'bout you?

I am going to end up pre-ordering all kinds of shit for the WII. I want to have that baby in my house and plugged in on launch day.

But yeah it seems like pre-ordering through most game stores is basically asking for it, when you're just giving them money in advance so they can collect 3-4 months of interest on your console $$$ or some such crap that's well past the point of diminishing returns. I am finally at the point with this new nintendo console that I'm understanding the kind of excitement and eagerness that makes people sign up for the preorder abuse, I guess.

I don't preorder and I rarely even buy games in the first 6 months they are released. VG prices drop quickly.

do you get money off or any other such benefits (besides a guaranteed product) from pre-ordering??

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 4 May 2006 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

no! and a lot of joints make you pay deposits up front!

EB/Gamestop occasionally give away promo schwag for pre-orders. Sometimes it's worth it(Free cow with Harvest Moon!), sometimes not.

a free COW?!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 4 May 2006 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

so basically you're signing a pledge to purchase something from a specific retailer and giving them money for no reason way in advance so you can't even back out of the deal. great!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 4 May 2006 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

well, a free stuffed cow.

it was cute.

The only game I've ever preordered which actually bore out the extra obligation was Animal Crossing for the DS, which was apparently damn near impossible to find when it first came out. I'm thinking about preordering New Super Mario, though; now THERE is a game I'm going to need to play immediately.

Also obv. the Wii will be exceedingly preordered by mii.

GUESS WHO'S ALREADY BOUGHT THE WORLD OF WARCRAFT EXPANSION PACK?

the last game i pre-ordered was fable...i'm still not sure why i did that.

yeah, i'm going to have to pre-order a wii, as well. just to make sure i get one. i mean, what's the difference when you give them the money?. you're going to give it to them anyway.

when my brother PO'd nintendogs, they gave him a schweet fatal fury baseball cap. and when i PO'd a dreamcast back in '99 they gave me a t-shirt, which is still sealed in it's plastic somewhere.

Darramouss ftw! (Darramouss ftw), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

well, seeing as how Bethesda already announced that most of the Oblivion crew was moved over to work on it(as opposed to, i dunno, PATCH oblivion)...

i wonder if there's any mention at this year's E3. Last year had a teaser poster.

I think I may have pre-ordered the first Metal Gear Solid, for some reason. I never did wear that t-shirt.

Also Halo 2, because I was excited about playing online with my friends (which lasted all of two weeks).

the last game i preordered was tony hawks american wasteland for pleasant plains' birthday last year (HE HASNT PLAYED IT YET) because it came with extra levels and a camera and a jacket sleeve thing that is textured to feel like GRIPTAPE. SMART.
before that, probably shaun palmers pro snowboarding which is only OK.

i like preordering because you do it months in advance and when the game comes out you just walk in and pick it up and it almost feels like youre getting it for free.

i dont like it because im not a fan of anticipation. immediate gratification pls right now thx.

hmm Duke Nukem Forever anyone?

Darramouss ftw! (Darramouss ftw), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

yes. the game is obviously vaporware. there's no shortage of evidence that this is so. Bethesda obviously has a long history of falsely advertising games, putting off their release for years, then quietly killing the project.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to pre-order my first game today: New Mario Bros DS, o'course
