I just bought donkey konga w/two drums for 20 buck at corner yardsale and after an hour or two of party fun, broke back out Taiko drum master. Anybody else dig these?

There's a donkey konga game that my friend has that isn't a rhythm game, it's more like a platformer that you control with the DK bongos. Like, you rapidly pound the bongos to run, and clap to attack. It's actually pretty fun, although it's very short.

I dunno. I think most post-bemani/parappa games have tried to expand on the basic rhythm-action template, in one direction or another. But drum based games always tend to feel like a huge leap backwards (or at least those with only one or two drums do. I guess DrumMania gets an exception).

(And I'd let Samba De Amigo off too).

I'm still waiting for a bemani game to beat the "driver's ed" level of Parappa, with the Can riff & Marsha Warfield-type moose

the DK action bongo game is Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. It's a shitload of fun.

Do any of these games come close to Samba De Amigo's majesty?

i've only played taiko for a few minutes and couldn't really get into it. mainly because i played it in circuit city. umm...Donkey Konga gets boring after a little while. DK Jungle beat is a shitload of fun, but it has nothing to do with keeping a beat or anything like that. if you already have the bongos, you might as well buy it.

two years pass...

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is so much better than you would think a platforming game controlled by bongos could ever be. It actually made getting those bongos worth it, compared to the generally boring blandness of Donkey Konga. The scoring/chaining method and level layout is pretty brilliant. Getting these Gold/Platinum medals is pretty tough!
