Lost in Blue?

I picked up a used copy of this based on the beauty of the graphics and about 10 minutes of gameplay. It held my attention, but at least in the beginning it seems a bit frustrating (how many coconuts must a man eat?!). Anyone else have experience with it?

I keep dying before I can build a fishing pole. I've looked at walkthroughs and apparently it does get more fun after that bit. I might get back into it at some point.

That's where I died most recently--looking for stuff to make a fishing pole. I need to figure out a better way to ration the coconuts or something. It's pretty compelling, but I'd definitely like to get it to the point where I don't feel like I'm going to die it I wander off in a direction with fewer things on the ground. It looks beautiful, though.
