Quake 4

Last week, I bought a special offer 2 x DVD of "Quake 4", I must admit, the only 2 reasons I bought it were:

1/ it came with "Quake 2" and the 2 expansion packs included, I fancied having another go through Q2, and my old CD won't work in Win XP for some reason. Also I never got the expansion packs first time round.

2/ it was only a tenner.

I'm enjoying playing "Quake 2", though the graphicks, which seemed awesome to me at the time, are pretty crap and basic now. If I want to run "Quake 4", I'll have to drop a faster processor into the win xp box. Is it any cop? "Quake 4", that is?

Also that spider robot monster from one of the expansion packs, that scuttles across the floor & ceiling, and fires green rays at you? BASTARD.

Never played Q4 loved 2 though.

Quake 4 was fun, and you should be able to adjust the settings to work on your box.

i got Q4 for christmas, being a big fan of Q2 back in the day. i played maybe 3 hours before boredom set in. i've never gone back. it's no HL2, imo. there just wasn't enough substance to hold my interest.

Quake 4 is a good game in the way that Resident Evil: Apocolypse is a good film.

(It's a more sensible and interesting Doom 3, too)

I got fed up with the "ground zero" expansion pack (it was all just the same) so I thought I'd try putting "Quake 4" in to see if it worked - the box0r quotez a min spec of a 2 ghz processor, I only have a 1.6 in the box, but it worked! God, it's difficult isn't it. The Stroggs are bastard fast.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 29 September 2006 09:10 (nineteen years ago)

i stumbled across an old N64 the other day, and a copy of Quake.

God it was bad

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 29 September 2006 09:15 (nineteen years ago)

I d/l-ed some patch for Q1, so it would run on win xp box0r, and went through all the levels quite recently. I really wanted to go through the 2 expansion packs as well, but they wouldn't work. I did enjoy it a lot, I must admit - the sound effects are very funny! Also, the monsters are great, especially the shambler, which is the best computer game monster ever, I think and the vore, which is the evillest-looking thing. Best/funniest thing is where you get the monsters to beat up on each other, my favourites being shambler vs vore, or best of all fiend vs zombie.

the whole H.P. Lovecraft thing that Quake had going on was fucking great. why did Id seem to forget about that?

I'm up to the bit where the spider/martian tripod bachine is IN THE FUKCING WAY of my hover-tank, and I have to destroy it. It's really hard. I realised the other day that I'm on the equivalent of "nightmare" skill level. Oops.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 6 October 2006 10:35 (nineteen years ago)

Finished it. For all the graphics were great and very real etc, it sucked, really. Can't think of anything particularly memorable about it at all.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 10:26 (nineteen years ago)

I never understood the love for quake 2. The rockets were so slooooooooooow. I probably still like 1 the best, but 3 was fun as well.

The end is memorable for how much of an anti-climax it is.

Id loves fast money.
They forget the laws of satisfaction(as I call them, there's probably a REAL word for it).
Instand gratification has delayed negative consequences.
Delayed gratification has delayed positive consequences.

Wait for the money and get more in the longrun, or not wait for te money and get less in the longrun.
They chose door number two.

two years pass...

anyone want an invite to the quake live beta?

cozwn, Wednesday, 7 January 2009 01:45 (seventeen years ago)

quake 2 was one of my favorite games ever. strafe-jumping/rocket-jumping made that game incredibly fun + the CTF levels were designed really well. quake 2 also marks the only time that i ever got nerdy enough about a game to join a 'clan'

6335, Tuesday, 13 January 2009 22:25 (seventeen years ago)

How is Quake Live? There really hasn't been much coverage on it, compared to say Battlefield: Heroes.

Nhex, Tuesday, 13 January 2009 22:42 (seventeen years ago)

i'm interested in the quake live beta, would love to play it

6335, Tuesday, 13 January 2009 22:45 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

Quake Live is... a weird experience. I remember when it was a hardware seller, and now you can play it inside your web browser, and it pretty much feels just like it did all those years ago. It's strange playing a game that fast again, let alone The Longest Yard inside Firefox. For better or worse, this is Quake 3 as it was.

(That said... a browser plugin that you still have to install? Kind of silly... and it's Windows only, too, go figure)

Nhex, Sunday, 22 February 2009 14:58 (seventeen years ago)

so, i'm waiting in some sort of queue in order to play quake live online, only 38,860 people in front of me. wow

6335, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 18:58 (seventeen years ago)

Is this worth the trouble?

Throwing Puffy under the gay bus, whatever that means (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 20:11 (seventeen years ago)

If you enjoyed Q3 back then, then definitely yes, if just for 15 minutes to try it out (though you have to spend a couple minutes fighting an AI bot to determine your skill level). It also nicely includes the Team Arena stuff which I always liked, so you don't have to FFA or Duel if you're not in the mood. After a little while I got used to the speed again (really weird and arcadey coming straight off of TF2) and was having a good time.

Nhex, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 23:22 (seventeen years ago)

i just played TF2 for an hour instead, forgetting to close the browser window with quake live on it, and I have just noticed I am still in the queue

thomp, Thursday, 26 February 2009 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

i finally got in and totally pwned the bot on the hardest level - just like riding a bike. now i just have to figure out how to get around the firewall at work

6335, Thursday, 26 February 2009 05:21 (seventeen years ago)

can't get the fucking ten minute placement match to start :(

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 27 February 2009 07:31 (seventeen years ago)

Queue issues seem to have eased up, seems fine right now. Also I didn't even realize they have little achievement things until now. Feel free to friend me.

Nhex, Saturday, 28 February 2009 04:09 (seventeen years ago)

Still can't get the damn game to work. I figured out last night it wasn't recognizing my mouse for some reason (once I got the training to start, I couldn't turn). Tonight I thought I'd try again and it just crashes my browser whenever I get out of the queue. I've just about given up trying.

Jeff LeVine, Saturday, 28 February 2009 04:42 (seventeen years ago)

gone from queue sizes of 30,000 to queue sizes of, uh, two.

thomp, Saturday, 28 February 2009 10:37 (seventeen years ago)

three months pass...

Wow.

Nhex, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 18:16 (sixteen years ago)
