i can handle blanka best, and he is one charming fellow, so i pick him. ryu is probably the most efficient fighter - well-timed sleeve-over-controller dragon punch rushes are unstoppable - but as far as personality goes, hes the wesley crusher of sf

don't be jerk, this is china (FE7), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 11:16 (twenty years ago)

I'm a typical Ryu/Ken player, constantly with the hadoken, hadoken, hadoken, spinnykickthing, shoryuken! It upsets my friends, but at least it beats them. I've been told though, this wouldn't hold up against someone who actually knew what they were doing.

My favourite character's actually Dhalsim, with Blanka second, but I'm nowhere near as good with them as I am with Ryu/Ken/Sagat.

melton mowbray (adr), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

So yeah, I pick Dhalsim. I'm sure I could get better with him.

melton mowbray (adr), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 11:27 (twenty years ago)

Dhalsim is awesome! Although actually I think the character I'm best at playing is Sakura.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

"dude I heard that like ken is faster but like ryu is stronger"

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

hahaha

chun-li for me. esp the fireball-throwing incarnation in the later games.

haitch in SYD (haitch), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:29 (twenty years ago)

haha i thought this was going to be a question about which one of the jillions of streetfigher games do you like.

i think i was always best with the guy who could stretch his arms, or claws. don't remember his name.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

oh i might be getting confused with two different fighters, it was the bullfighter one i think with the claws. not the bendy guy.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

Guile:

Low kick combos, charge moves, grebt hair.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

haitch OTM, Chun Li, but only with blue fireball. It was a lot slower than Ken/Ryu's, but adding a projectile to her repetoire made her much more well-rounded and less dependent on kicks.

Ste, the stretchy guy was Dhalsim, and the bullfighter/Wolverine ripoff was Vega.

Laura H. (laurah), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

Are we strictly talking Streetfighters here or can I actually bring up my favorite Darkstalker, Hsien-Ko?

You can probably guess which Mortal Kombat character was my favorite...

http://fp.enter.net/~jkool/images/MK/MK%20Gifs/animated_rayden_dive_mk2.gif

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

Mortal Kombat was always a tossup between Kitiara, Johnny Cage and Sub Zero.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

BACK BACK FORWARDS, BACK BACK FORWARDS, BACK BACK FORWARDS (and so on)

melton mowbray (adr), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

My friends would get so sick of me picking the same character and pulling the same moves that they'd also pick Blanka or Rayden.

Which led to a lot of games that looked like this:
http://fp.enter.net/~jkool/images/MK/MK%20Gifs/animated_rayden_dive_mk2.gif http://fp.enter.net/~jkool/images/MK/MK%20Gifs/animated_rayden_dive_mk2.gif

I'm the King (Queen?) of Chun-Li. I could airthrow you at will.

PP, stop your damn flying. It's messing up my blinking cursor.

Leeeeeeeee (Leee), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

To this day, my friends and I use the term "quick back back forwards" when someone manages to slip in a cheap special move on any beat'em up (usually Ice Man's "Ice Beam" on Marvel vs Capcom).

melton mowbray (adr), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 18:45 (twenty years ago)

balrog fabio la cerda!

(vega's original name)

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 25 September 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

original names:
mike bison -> balrog
balrog fabio la cerda -> vega
vega -> m. bison

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 25 September 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Ken unless we can pick newer streetfighter characters then gouki/akuma all the way.

jeffrey (johnson), Sunday, 25 September 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

haha yes i remember the furor over mike bison's name being too similar to mike tyson so they had to change it all on the snes port.

i'm going to be boring and go with ken just because he's so damn sexy.

rio natsume, Sunday, 25 September 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

Chun Li and (American-style) Vega.

adam (adam), Sunday, 25 September 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

Oh Chun-li. Such a harsh life to be the most defiled character in hentai fan manga(even moreso than Lara Croft)...

melton mowbray (adr), Sunday, 25 September 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

Haha, forget about the legs, this image from the first page of a google image search for "chun li" says it all.

http://www.sazanka.sakura.ne.jp/~serious/pages/graphics/images_ad/images/futa_chun_li.jpg

Seriously, don't click this link if you're eating/drinking, unless your monitor could do with a coat of food. I've clicked two links today that ILX warned me not to, and regretted it immediately.

melton mowbray (adr), Sunday, 25 September 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

what is it? "futanari"?

...yep.

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Sunday, 25 September 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

I like to think that's what they call Futurama in Japan, but unfortunately I know I'm wrong.

melton mowbray (adr), Sunday, 25 September 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

Lol me and my friend had matching WoW characters named Futa and Guro ;'(

CUT MY LIFE INTO PIZZAS ;_; (Adrian Langston), Sunday, 25 September 2005 23:28 (twenty years ago)

I was a Ryu guy just for the two-hit axe kick and the barrel-roll throws, I didn't even bother with the special moves. Chun Li was second pick for the wall-bouncing and air throws.

Of course, if turbo was available, it had to be E. Honda (at least in whatever version let you slide around while hundred hand punching).

Jordan (Jordan), Saturday, 1 October 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

One time I was playing Street Fighter with my friend Ricardo, and I hadn't played the game in probably five years. But I used to be pretty damned good. So I went player by player through the game and beat him with every guy until I got to the last guy, Dhalsim. He barely beat me, and I asked for a rematch.

The fucker put the controller down and has never played me at Street Fighter since then. Highly frustrating.

Each player has strengths and weaknesses, but if you're a top level player (which I'm not), Ryu is definitely the best choice. Many other players have serious holes that can easily be exploited by Ryu if you know what you're doing. I used to take great pleasure absolutely destroying people without using a single hadoken, shoryuken or tatsumakisenpukyaku.

I probably would get my ass kicked if I played now.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Saturday, 1 October 2005 20:16 (twenty years ago)

I could take you with Chun Li, mang.

I forget: did Honda's moving 100-Hand Slaps render him invincible to projectiles? I never had problems with that.

Leeeeeeeee (Leee), Saturday, 1 October 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

The hundred hand slap was so easy to to counter if you knew what you were doing.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 17 October 2005 18:28 (twenty years ago)

Damn. That is some fierce street fighting.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 October 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

That is Street Fighter 3, dude is parrying each hit of the super combo by pressing the d-pad at the exact time each hit of it connects, which is some pretty impressive/geeky shit.

Totally, and those two moves, the DDD+PPP hit-the-floor one, and the LP,LP,F,LK,HK hug of death. Incredible!

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Thursday, 20 April 2006 05:54 (nineteen years ago)

i almost always play as chun-li, and could usually beat my non-asian friends by using just the middle-kick button. kick, bounce-off-head, bounce-off-head, bounce-off-head, bounce-off-wall, bounce-off-head-again, jump-kick-on-the-way-down, then lightning kick... or something like that

JW (ex machina), Thursday, 20 April 2006 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

I beat you with Ryu too. Besides, it's not that hard to strategize against Chun Li, my brother pwns me every time.

Laura H. (laurah), Thursday, 20 April 2006 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

Also, I'll take you up on your turbo SF challenge any day of the week.

Laura H. (laurah), Thursday, 20 April 2006 17:54 (nineteen years ago)

My proudest SFII moment was in a movie theater arcade against some punk-ass older kids. Half the buttons were broken on my controls, but I still beat him using Ryu and only the light punch and medium kick buttons!

FAULTY LOGIC MAGGOT BRANE MORAN (ex machina), Thursday, 20 April 2006 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

There's no logical reason to assume that the second post was in reference to Phil; the most logical assumption was actually that you were directing your second post to the object of your first one. Get one antecedent, xpost tag, or liberal arts degree (you choose).

Laura H. (laurah), Thursday, 20 April 2006 18:02 (nineteen years ago)

There's no compelling reason to assume that the second post was in reference to you either. The most logical assumption was that I was directing the comments to the person who had posted before me.

If anything, your implied subject in the second post seemed more likely to be the impersonal "you" than Phil, esp. since he hadn't established dialogue with you and there was no particular reason for you to posture towards him specifically. But much as I'd enjoy doing a deeper linguistic analysis of your poor grasp on the principles of deixis, I'm going outside to beat Metroid now. xo

Will M. (Will M.), Saturday, 22 April 2006 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

guh for the record i am not "that guy who brags aobut how good he is at video games." i really suck at the street fighter series. i just learned SF3 on a shoto character and am now migrating to a non-shoto is all. ken kills things with easy in general. i still lose with him a bunch and don't know how to parry!

Will M. (Will M.), Saturday, 22 April 2006 11:31 (nineteen years ago)

i use yang a lot when i'm bored with ken. he's really fun! dive kick -> MP,HP,b+HP or LK,MK,HK is great, it's easy and knocks them down so you can pressure with high/low/crossup mindgames as they're getting up.
