Medieval: Total War 2

I got this today! I pre-ordered it months ago as a surprise for myself, and I had COMPLETELY forgotten.
It looks awesome. Trouble is, I so don't have the time to play it, since I'm still engrossed in NWN2. So here's a thread for you guys to tell me how great/awful it is, to tide me over til I actually have the time to get involved. I may have a quick peek when I get home this afternoon, but I really don't want to get distracted from NWN.
I'm actually also really bummed that this arrived today, in a weird way; I'm halfway through a game of Rome:TW at the moment, but now I know that there's no way I'm going to finish it.

Hmm. Think my flatmate pre-ordered this too. Hopefully he will have it today to, and I'll get a report of how good it is. Always wanted to try the Total War games, but I'm kinda lazy, and never got round to it.

These games are overwhelming. I'm not good at real strategy (as opposed to the MOO/Civ kind).

I didn't find any of them overwhelming as such, it's just surprising the amount of time you need to dedicate to the game.

I always thought (with the exception of tech-trees) that Rome played quite a lot like Civ.

Question for the Computer Illiterate:

the requirements for this game are:

celeron 1.8GHz Pentium 4® (1500MHz) or equivalent AMD® processor.
512MB RAM.

I have:

1.6GHz Intel core duo
1GB RAM

Can i still run this game?

I'd say so, yeah, since Celerons are a pile of shit w/fuck all cache.

Video card?

Video Chipset: Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950

???

Never heard of that - is that onboard? Laptop? A very quick look at the wiki for that chipset says it's Pixel Shader 3.0 compatible, which is a good sign. I ahve to go home now, so I can't investigate further at the moment. I'll try to confirm for you later/tomorrow.

yeah, came with my laptop I just bought. Rome TW runs fine, no problems.

thanks dude

Sorry dude, I did some googling, but I can't come up with an answer. All I can suggest is that you DL the demo and give it a try.

As I said upthread, the GMA950 does support PS3.0, so chances are it'll run the game, but I really have no idea what kind of performance you can expect. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

one year passes...

Did anybody end up playing this?

Jeff LeVine, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 23:34 (seventeen years ago)

After years of wanting to get this, I got an intel-based iMac, loaded Windows Vista on it, and bought this game. I've played it exactly twice. I usually start it and think "ooh man, i'm gonna have to devote some REAL TIME to this thing...best not get caught up in it right now."

Gukbe, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 23:58 (seventeen years ago)

Played it plenty. It's as much fun as Rome etc, but still a time sink. Unfortunately, installing the expansion broke my install and it crashes every time i have a siege battle. Un/Reinstalling didn't fix.
Would probably still be playing it if this hadn't happened. Big battles on "Huge" mode are WIN.

Now I miss this game.
