Pros:
Found it used for $19.99! :-D
The game play is the smoothest I've ever seen on a PS2.
Great graphics and challenging play.
The Franchise mode seems like it could be a lot of fun, but why do I have to do all that marketing shit when I just want to play the game?

Some bugs:
NO DOUBLE SWITCH
what the fuck? All of the old EA games used to have the ability to double switch, but the 2K and now this must be designed by AL supremacists.

Player Progression isn't as good as 2K's, but better than EA's.

The announcers sometimes mess up who did what earlier in the game, like a shift of +1 in the lineup card.

I'm addicted to this game, it never gets boring...but yea lots of bugs like sometimes the fielders let the ball go past them (they don't get into 'fielding' mode, they just stand there like idiots), that gets very aggravating obv.

i'm francis btw, i haven't posted here before

i do the fantasy draft and totally try to moneyball in young players with A potential in the early years of cheap long term contracts.

i wish there was an easier way to research players stats and attributes.

NO DOUBLE SWITCH

Yes you can. When you replace your pitcher it will say "Square to double switch". If you're not replacing a pitcher, just make two replacements. Easy peasy.

Every single sub-element of the management mode can be switched to CPU instead of Manual in the Options.

Player Progression isn't as good as 2K's, but better than EA's.

Yeah it isn't great. Players don't improve as much as they should year to year, especially young players.

sometimes the fielders let the ball go past them

Drives me CRAZY!

Yeah, it's really weird. "Neifi Perez hit a home run earlier!" No he didn't.

Polyphonic do you play the actual games in franchise mode or do you mostly sim? I try to play the games (maybe like 1 a week) but that gets incredibly tedious.

I sim until I get a healthy record and then sim for a month and then check my management stuff.

I'm only in my second season, but my team is pretty amazing. Justin Verlander is the #5 starter... on my AAA team! And I have like 8 million in cap room.

Excuse me, I play until I get a healthy record.

Thanks polyp! I'll try it tonight! I always tried to make a defensive substitution before the pitching change and got cockblocked.

Which prospects have proved the most worthwhile?

Has anyone been tempted by drafting/trading for Reggie Stocker yet?

Which prospects have proved the most worthwhile?

I have pumped a ton of money into my development, but it doesn't seem to have much of an effect on the guys with minor league stats. Then again, I'm only in year two. The best way to get prospects is to just spend a ton on scouting and let the computer pick your guys. Every year I wind up with two or three guys who don't even really need to play in the minors at all, they're already good enough.

Has anyone been tempted by drafting/trading for Reggie Stocker yet?

The main reason I haven't is his salary and his age. My team is young and my payroll is spread out very evenly. The first thing I did as a GM is trade Jake Peavy and his ridiculous 16mil/year contract to Tampa Bay for Kazmir and his 2-3mil contract. There is just no reason to have a player who makes that much money.

Anyway, I am a huge nerd and should probably be shot.

I take it you play as SD?

Im enticed to try the franchise mode, but figure I might as well wait until the new game comes out for the new season. I too am a huge nerd and get pissed when I look at the Dodger minor leaguers and only see Broxton as a starter, that guy who got the cadaver TJ surgery and maybe even Edwin Jackson.

Are the 2K folk officially sanctioned by MLB going forward? I still kinda miss the EA games, but the college baseball game sucked.

Always.

It is very weird how they have a few of the minor leaguers but not even close to all of them. How hard could it be to just grab the baseball america charts and plug the data in?

FYI: Reggie Stocker is 24 y/o!

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:43 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe it's a licensing issue? I kind of doubt that MiLBers are covered by the MLBPA whosits agreement.

Oh weird, I didn't notice that. I guess I just assumed.
