I've got the M3 Perfect, which just takes an SD card, and the software emulators provided on the actual card allow you to play nes, master system, gameboy, gba, etc games using the card.
It's a little awkward for homebrew in that you have to take out the card, plug the sd card into your PC, write the rom, swap it all over again then try your game (some other cards are just flash cards with a USB slot in them so you dont have to remove them to re-write the flash), but now that no$gba has such good DS support you can develop and test on that and run on hardware every now and then.

didnt have any problems flashing either my ds phat or lite, although some people on the internet seem to have huge amounts of problems (especially with the lite). i think the risk of bricking your ds is pretty exagerrated, but you don't need to flash now with the new slot 1 cards out anyway.

If you can get DSorganise to work online, then apparently it has a built in homebrew directory, and can wirelessly download whatever bits of software you want. Sounds like a lovely idea, haven't managed it myself yet though (mostly becuase our router uses WPA, and my DS can't, and I'm too lazy to fiddle around switching it on and off).

gbatemp seems to be the best information source out there, but there are other wikis out there that are pretty good too. also if you are lookin to buy, check out jandaman.com. it has a 10% discount for goons: use discount code "sagoons"

― s1ocki, Thursday, 31 July 2008 20:28 (seventeen years ago)
ok
― Jordan, Thursday, 31 July 2008 21:03 (seventeen years ago)
it's quite simple actually!
you just need to get them, a microds card, and download the software to stick on the card.

i got that R4, now i just need to figure out what to do with it if i ever have time
― Jordan, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 15:13 (seventeen years ago)
so far:
-can't get snes stuff to work, i don't know if it's the emulators i've tried or bad roms or if i'm not doing stuff right.
-Jenesis emulator works like a charm for the most part, but i can't think of many genesis games i want to play (tried shadowrun, but a lot of the text is messed up and it's annoying to keep scrolling with L&R buttons to see the whole screen).
-nes stuff works, so basically i spent forty bucks to play contra and base wars (can't figure out how to save anything in base wars, though).

Just got a new DS lite off my girlfriend to replace my old and busted DS. Thought i'd pop onto amazon to pick up a new R4 card and... it's gone! and the rest of the web seems to be a minefield of scams and duds.
Does anyone have any solid advice on a reasonable cheap flashcard from a reputable store that'll deliver to the UK?

Very recently bought an R4 from http://www.smartbuyeruk.com/
Quick service, card works nice, would recommend to strangers on the internet.

I got a SupercardOne about a year ago, it's one of the cheaper ones and it's worked perfectly (it even ran the Chinatown Wars rom that everyone else seemed to have a problem with).

just bought an acekard 2 for my dsi, haven't a clue how this whole thing works though so fingers crossed. one thing i would like is to be able to watch wmv files on it - do any of the homebrew thingies enable this, or do i have to convert all video files to a specific type to do this? (the problems inherent in coverting wmv to anything else are a whole other minefield)
