actionbutton.net is zero punctuation for lovers

There have been so few things on this site I've disagreed with, and even that which I disagreed with I loved reading about. What is this Tim Rogers fellow's deal anyway? Why's he great?

Sorry for making a ZP comparison but it was just too funny to not do once I thought of it.

That's actually a great idea! I should print these shits out to read on the bus or something because yeah. Widescreen laptop monitors are COMPLETELY not made to read walls o' text. Still he's fucking amazing.

So, so right. I actually like a lot of his writing. But only when it's about games, and not about how great a ramen stand is or how punk he wishes he was. It has long surpassed that point for me, where I'm willing to sift through the garbage for the gems. (And why did he have to go from IC to LPN to AB?)

What's LPN?

This Facebreaker review may be my favourite piece of online editorial in 2008 and I DON'T KNOW WHY

LPN = LargePrimeNumbers, the site Mr. 108 jumped ship to after uh... I don't know what happened with InsertCredit but it's probably unimportant. And now he has sort of jumped ship to ActionButton, but he seems to still posting inanely at LPN, as a quick glance at the front page shows.

If you're just discovering Rogers now, I recommend looking up his old super longform pieces of InsertCredit on Super Mario Bros. 3, Earthbound, and Metal Gear Solid 2. All super-spoilery, of course, but there's good stuff there. I think his FF VII (the first PS1 game) review was good too, but this might have been after he hit LPN and his essays had gotten to be something like 20 pages long and you had to skim through 10 pages of miscellany to get to where he actually started talking about the game.

Err, I'm just coming to the realization that you like him now despite this, so go ahead and find them, if you're even remotely interested in those games.

Re: the topic title, I find Zero Punctuation to be the opposite of Rogers' stuff - pretty funny in its brevity, and sometimes the zingers work, but he's more than willing to underlook/essentialize/ignore things for the sake of a joke. That's ok, but you know, the arguments and depth of insight are pretty basic.
