dude i have 13 hours on a plane tomorrow

the laptop should last for at least 8 hours.

what game should i put on it

it's not amazing graphics wise. i'm thinking perhaps a classic game.

worse comes to worse i can put a NES emulator on it but would much prefer a mouse based game.

suggestions welcome!

haha although it'd be funny to get a lightgun perhaps for duck hunt and get arrested at the airport

is it a mac laptop or a pc laptop?

both:
battle of wesnoth -- fun, fire emblem style gameage
football manager -- if you like football...
(see also eastside hockey manager, out of the bark baseball, they might have other manager games, i forget)
anything by popcap games
any of the trillion versions of worms out there
word slinger, text twist, word galaxies, all that word shit

pc:
system shock 2 is kinda old so it might run
armadillo run, although i have never played, looks incredible
eets also looks amazing
the other popcap games

mac:
big bang something something has sudoku, concentration, simon, minesweeper, and two other barely-amusing "games" that kept me interested for a very solid 40 minutes or so combined

Civilization, the original. I can totally blast an entire day starting from scratch on that game.

I'd recommend SNES/Genesis emulators and a logitech gamepad.

This is how I spent my flights to the parents house. The libraries are deep enough that playing Chrono Trigger/FF3/Zelda/Super Metroid/Shadowrun should last a while.

Other recommendations: Starcraft, any of the Civ games, Diablo II, Jets & Guns, AOE III, the Fallout games, etc

oooh CIV clever!

as is worms!

and Emulator games obv..

i'm looking forward to this! whoever sits next to me will be SO JEALOUS.

(unless they have also a laptop)

i can always also just watch all the naruto episodes.

Possibly ScummVM? I'm trying to think of games I played using a mouse ~7/8 years ago.

Settlers, Syndicate, Red Alert/C&C, Cannon Fodders. Some of those are more time-consuming than others, obviously.

CraigG (Craig Gilchrist), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

But wait a sec, 8 hours!? What kinda super laptop battery is this! I get about 90mins from mine. tops. Actually, I get none now as the battery wont take a charge, but 8 hours!?

CraigG (Craig Gilchrist), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:33 (eighteen years ago)

C&C for real! Syndicate is a keeper. I would have to kill you and steal laptop if I was flying near you. Jealousy is a dangerous thing!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

YEAH, FALLOUT! if you haven't beaten those yet... get fallout 1 and get started. that's 8 hours of fun right there and you'll probably still ahve enough fallout for the plane back

Will M. (Will M.), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

worms! definitely worms! i have never been 100% satisfied with any of the ps2 conversions, but on pc that game is PERFECTION.

Fallout is rubbish! I'm sorry but it is.

Fallout is rubbish

Lots of people disagree :)

Although most agree re: fallout tactics and many re: fallout 2. To each his own I guess. Turn-based is my fave genre because I can pay as much or as little attention as I want.

Will M. (Will M.), Friday, 9 February 2007 18:19 (eighteen years ago)

Master of Orion 2

Will M. (Will M.), Friday, 9 February 2007 18:24 (eighteen years ago)

You won't find too many supporters of Fallout Tactics on here.

kingfishy (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 9 February 2007 18:35 (eighteen years ago)

On a similar note, Baldur's Gate 2, Gridwars, etc

(this all assumes you have a comfortable way of using a mouse)

kingfishy (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 9 February 2007 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

Really you should try to get some sleep, but I'm with Craig -- 8 HOURS??

c(,,c) (Leee), Friday, 9 February 2007 19:29 (eighteen years ago)

to be clear, i hated fallout tactics too. my wording was... cryptic.

Will M. (Will M.), Friday, 9 February 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

I did warcraft 3 on my laptop on the chinatown bus, it worked out alright.

Star Control 2

Will M. (Will M.), Saturday, 10 February 2007 04:26 (eighteen years ago)

aka "The Ur-Quan Masters" as it's now called since they didn't have the rights to the name but they kept the code so they changed the name when it went open source. I'm not much of one for "retro" "computer" "games" but the music/game is mind lbowing. playing it right now.

Will M. (Will M.), Saturday, 10 February 2007 04:29 (eighteen years ago)

play 'snake' on the plane

Will M. (Will M.), Saturday, 10 February 2007 06:11 (eighteen years ago)

star conrol 2 = one of the best ever

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 10 February 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

I grabbed all the Ur-Quan master updates to Star Control 2 a few years ago and I was really surprised by how well it holds up.

Scott Warner (thream), Saturday, 10 February 2007 19:38 (eighteen years ago)

Escape Velocity
Fallout 2, since it seems to me like one of those sequels that supplants the original. Instead of playing them both, just play fallout 2.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Sunday, 11 February 2007 01:05 (eighteen years ago)

Civ is the winner here.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Sunday, 11 February 2007 15:35 (eighteen years ago)

Nah! Play Fallout 1. Pound for pound (read: hour for hour) the most enjoyable. 2 can drag sometimes.

Will M., Thursday, 22 February 2007 02:15 (eighteen years ago)

well?
