Mordy, Saturday, 11 October 2008 23:39 (seventeen years ago)

super mario land 2: 6 golden coins is runner up

STINKING CORPSE (cozwn), Saturday, 11 October 2008 23:41 (seventeen years ago)

lol Mordy i have, it's before my time i guess. sc reverence is just a thing i've never understood. my top5 would be:
01 Shining Force
02 Alone in the Dark
03 Romance of the Three Kingdoms III: Dragon of Destiny
04 Ecco
05 Final Fantasy V

******* (Lamp), Saturday, 11 October 2008 23:45 (seventeen years ago)

If I'd played Shining Force, I'd probably be voting for that; I absolutely loved the sequel that came out on the Saturn.

Alone in the Dark is incredibly overrated, I think.

Like sicking a little bit of water into my mouth (HI DERE), Saturday, 11 October 2008 23:46 (seventeen years ago)

Gotta agree with Mordy, before I saw Star Control 2, I thought this might be a tough one.

Still, damn! Contra III and Super Mario Kart! Dagger of Amon Ra (aka Laura Bow 2), Fate of Atlantis, 7th Guest and Alone in the Dark for the adventure genre! Sonic 2! Final Fantasy V! Amazing year, it's like 1989 and American summer blockbusters.

Nhex, Saturday, 11 October 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

Bard's Tale II wasn't 1992. Voted Shining Force cos that's how I roll.

Poll Wall (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 October 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, Bard's Tale II is a mistake.

I voted for Sonic 2, with Super Mario Kart and Flashback being my next favorites.

abanana, Sunday, 12 October 2008 00:52 (seventeen years ago)

Fate of Atlantis would probably have been my #2

Mordy, Sunday, 12 October 2008 00:55 (seventeen years ago)

Honestly, Wolfenstein was the one that I committed my soul to.

forksclovetofu, Monday, 13 October 2008 05:01 (seventeen years ago)

alone in the dark gave me nightmares when i played it as a kid. i still have really vivid memories of the game and certain puzzles. i haven't played it since about 1993, in part probably because it can't really live up to the memories i have. shining force 2, however, is one of the best games ever.

i tried playing contra III like a month ago and it was crazy hard. and ugly, actually.

******* (Lamp), Monday, 13 October 2008 05:17 (seventeen years ago)

star control 2 ftw

s1ocki, Monday, 13 October 2008 05:48 (seventeen years ago)

between wolfenstein and mortal kombat for me.

i understand dune ii was supposed to be great, i played it once i think -- but i never liked any of the rts games that followed it.

goole, Monday, 13 October 2008 05:56 (seventeen years ago)

between wolfenstein and mortal kombat for me.

^same for me. loved them both at the time.

wilter, Monday, 13 October 2008 06:51 (seventeen years ago)

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

That Night Trap video posted above is kind of infuriating.

circa1916, Monday, 13 October 2008 07:23 (seventeen years ago)

Alone in the Dark, although Wolfenstein comes second. For better or worse both games foreshadow a heck of a lot of stuff that came after.

snoball, Monday, 13 October 2008 10:35 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, but so does Dune II. I picked Star Control II, partly because I enjoyed it more than anything else I played on the list.

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 13 October 2008 10:38 (seventeen years ago)

I wanted to vote Alone in the Dark, but think I may have inadvertantly clicked on Virtua Racing. Anyway of changing it?

Ant Attack |=| (Ste), Monday, 13 October 2008 10:42 (seventeen years ago)

wolf3d.exe ftw

Cool Hand Tiller (onimo), Monday, 13 October 2008 12:20 (seventeen years ago)

System, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

I'm surprised Mortal Kombat placed so high. It's a really fun game, but it doesn't have the depth of Street Fighter II and other fighting games of the time.

abanana, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 23:22 (seventeen years ago)

^Srsly^

Every character had the same exact kicks, punches, sweeps, uppercuts. Every punch hit for the same amount of damage, no matter which character you chose. LAME

z "R" s (Z S), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 23:25 (seventeen years ago)

It's gotta be the nostalgia, surely. I played the HELL out of both MK1 and 2 in the arcades - I was still pretty hungry for fighting games back then despite also being hardcore into SF2 - and NeoGeo fighters aren't really as popular or available. "Mortal Monday" is way too familiar for a lot of people in my generation - MK was huge and fun. Looking back, it's really obvious the game was nowhere near as good as Capcom or SNK's stuff, but there's still that fondness. (But obviously I still voted for Star Control 2, come on)

I'm still in awe of how many good to great games are on that list!

Nhex, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 23:30 (seventeen years ago)

none of them are sc2 tho u fucking nerds

******* (Lamp), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 23:33 (seventeen years ago)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time who voted for this?

******* (Lamp), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 23:37 (seventeen years ago)

Was that the one where you can throw enemies at the camera? good times

abanana, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 23:38 (seventeen years ago)

It actually had the extra stages and altered bosses from the arcade version, so for once it was (sort of) a superior port! (but I didn't vote for it)

Nhex, Thursday, 16 October 2008 02:49 (seventeen years ago)

srsly wht the hell is star control 2?!

cozwn, Thursday, 16 October 2008 02:50 (seventeen years ago)

s1ocki, Thursday, 16 October 2008 04:50 (seventeen years ago)

Super Star Wars

polyphonic, Thursday, 16 October 2008 06:03 (seventeen years ago)

I appreciate there wasn't exactly tonnes of votes, but I'm surprised I'm the only person who chose Flashback.

This poll vs. the '96 poll shows what a strong year '92 was IMO...

CraigG, Thursday, 16 October 2008 09:18 (seventeen years ago)

looks like my vote didn't mess up afterall

Ant Attack |=| (Ste), Thursday, 16 October 2008 09:19 (seventeen years ago)

I've never played Star Control 2. How about we use it for next month's IPC?

JimD, Friday, 17 October 2008 09:09 (seventeen years ago)

it feels weird to me that wolfenstein came out alongside some of these great console games, i think of it as older than that.

Jordan, Friday, 17 October 2008 21:09 (seventeen years ago)

I would also like to do Star Control 2... though i never played fallout, really.
Is it readily accessible?

forksclovetofu, Friday, 17 October 2008 21:29 (seventeen years ago)

Can one of you guys invite me to the Players Club? I didn't offer to join cos my own playing agenda seems too packed but I'd like to read the threads.

Poll Wall (Noodle Vague), Friday, 17 October 2008 21:31 (seventeen years ago)

I'd really like to open the thing up! I made a big mistake trying to keep it private and now I'd like it public.

forksclovetofu, Friday, 17 October 2008 21:45 (seventeen years ago)

NV, what's the email you signed up to ILX via?

forksclovetofu, Friday, 17 October 2008 21:45 (seventeen years ago)

abanana, Sunday, 3 May 2009 08:10 (sixteen years ago)

judging from the foot soldiers' moves there, that's actually a remake of "Beat It."

Doctor Casino, Monday, 4 May 2009 02:51 (sixteen years ago)

by the way thanks to this thread I can now play SC2 on my PSP
