uh, not for another three years at least.* Microsoft + Sony still bleeding money* Nintendo still making it hand over fist and the wiimote 1:1 motion capture add-on hasn't even come out

and for the time being I don't think any of the players are interested in making anything more "powerful" than the current PS3 spec. way too expensive, especially since the world's #1 7th-gen console doesn't even support HD.

ps3 is supposed to have a 10-year lifespan just like dad, right? and the valhalla chipset for the 360 won't ship until probably 2010, and then maybe we'll hear about whatever next ridiculous looking thing they're planning next; or for all we know Redmond could spin off the whole business by that point.

it is time for a new system which is twice as powerful as the ps3 and half the price and the games are free and it incorporates some kind of footwarmer for the winter months and it can write your Law, Poverty and Justice essay for you while you play Borderlands

informal poll: what's the oldest system do you think could support the gameplay of at least 90% of any games you would want to play?
for example, for tetris, you wouldn't need a gameboy -- an atari 2600 could probably run a perfectly passable tetris.

you can't imagine more than 5-7 independently moving sprites. that's roughly NES-level right?
