AND its coming out on PS2!!! FUCK YOU XBOX360! I CAN STILL HAVE FUN W/O you!!!!!!!!!!

a country packed with ponies (sunny successor), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

I really should have just got a PS3

a country packed with ponies (sunny successor), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

AND its coming out on PS2!!!

Is this a Victoria's Secret model in granny panties? Will the resolution be noticeably worse?

re: GoW2 - if you've played the first, the second's word of mouth is good so far.

Depends on if you'd rather go with a known good commodity or take a chance on the new cuteness of Little Big Planet.

TS: GoW vs. Resistance - similar themes, styles, etc. Can anyone speak to why one's better than the other? Resistance 2 would be a buy if I had a PS3.

scampering alpaca, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 17:16 (seventeen years ago)

hey im playing tomb raider 2 right now so anything else looks pretty great

a country packed with ponies (sunny successor), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 17:17 (seventeen years ago)

I'm hearing the snowboarding game is a bit of a dud, unfortunately. I would put Little Big Planet / Fallout 3 at the top of that list as at the least, both are kind of unique. The one's with twos after the name are probably pretty much a wash - just more of the same. It seems like people are rating Gears slightly higher, because the graphics are slightly better and because you can play through the campaign solo or co-op (with one other person). Personally, I just don't want to play any more in Gears testosterone fueled comic book world and decided to give Resistance 2 a shot (even though I only thought the first game was average).

Jeff LeVine, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 17:32 (seventeen years ago)

ha, those are the two i just bought! thanks for validating my $130 spent.

cutty, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 17:58 (seventeen years ago)

i'll hold off on resistance 2 for now. didn't play the first one. i did beat GOW so maybe the best bet is to give the other franchise a try.

cutty, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

I guess it all depends on your mood. What are you in the mood to play?

obama cyber leader (kingfish), Thursday, 6 November 2008 05:09 (seventeen years ago)

GoW2 is pretty good, but I have no idea how it compares to the first one. Definitely a nice change of pace from more complex games like Fable and Fallout. I haven't played anything as inherently fun and imaginative as Little Big Planet in a long while, though.

GM, Thursday, 6 November 2008 14:08 (seventeen years ago)

i watched videos from the shaun white game on IGN last night. it looks good!

a country packed with ponies (sunny successor), Thursday, 6 November 2008 14:42 (seventeen years ago)

i am in the mood to play a game that won't make me want to shut it off after 15 minutes of gameplay

I played Fable 2 for two hours at my friend's house yesterday and I am definitely going to buy it.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 20:24 (seventeen years ago)

Definitely need Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts (long platformer like the originals)
maybe Fallout 3 and Gears of War 2

i might get shaun white 4 ps2 today

a country packed with ponies (sunny successor), Wednesday, 19 November 2008 16:43 (seventeen years ago)

L4D is hella fun, but I don't think i can handle paying sixty bucks for it.

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 19:24 (seventeen years ago)

^^^ my friends have been playing it like crazy but i doubt i will get enough enjoyment out of co-op to pay full price for the game. also i still haven't finished fallout 3.

Lamp, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 19:36 (seventeen years ago)

I must have seen like 40 ads for Shaun White last night on ESPN at the bar. That Wii version looks cool enough to be inevitably disappointing

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 21:11 (seventeen years ago)

forks, I think L4D is the best game of 2008. I also think it has more replay value than anything else to come out in years. Whether it's worth $60 is up to you, but I'm just sayin'.

Everyone is a Jedi (Will M.), Wednesday, 19 November 2008 21:38 (seventeen years ago)

Aw man, I don't wanna have to buy L4D on the way home tonight but YOU HAVE PLANTED THE SEED

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 21:43 (seventeen years ago)

eight months pass...

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/05/lol-singularity-delayed-to-avoid-competitive-titles/

Looks like tons of games are getting pushed to the months after xmas to avoid overcrowding the marketplace, thus overcrowding the marketplace. Obviously the video game industry has been infiltrated by music industry folks but games arent greatest hits comps or rap albums. People can only spend so much money. Why not have 1 decent goddamn game come out in the summertime?

mayor jingleberries, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 21:40 (sixteen years ago)

They need to put some games out between April and August already... but as that post shows, this pushing has happened so much (the many announcements over the last few months) that I'm wondering if it's not a more generic excuse these companies are just using to delay titles - the real reasons perhaps being funding/development problems, the economy, etc. Unfortunately right now it seems that both the end of '09 AND the beginning of '10 will have a major glut as you say...

Nhex, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 22:05 (sixteen years ago)

ouch http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/08/05/2009-delayed-until-2010-christmas-cancelled/

Nhex, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 22:09 (sixteen years ago)

The dearth of games has me pondering crazy ideas like buying Madden for a second consecutive year, or buying a Wii. Things that seemed impossible a month ago.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 22:44 (sixteen years ago)

They need to put some games out between April and August already

you mean like Infamous, Prototype, Red Faction, BlazBlue, MVC2, etc?

I mean this year is an anomaly but I thought that meme had been spiked.

passed on the lead in "all i can do is crossups cuz ihave no skills" (jamescobo), Thursday, 6 August 2009 00:22 (sixteen years ago)

first three to me are zzzzzzzzz generic action titles (hence them being released during this half of the year instead of x-mas with all the others), and mvc2 is a ten-year-old digital download port, c'mon! i'll give you blazblue, though

though honestly i'm more annoyed with the DS release schedule dropping off hardcore since GTA came out, but layton and mario are about to come out and god knows there's tons of back catalog games to hunt down (also I did have to wait about 5 months for the PC version of SFIV to finally come out in July)

still with the odd exception (like GTA IV last year dropping in April) I wouldn't call this a "meme", i mean just look at the movie industry from January to April, it's the same crap (with recent exceptions in early March, due to 300/Watchmen. Though I did like Coraline!)

Nhex, Thursday, 6 August 2009 01:56 (sixteen years ago)

ok, on the fairness tip I will admit my circle of friends were super excited about the Ghostbusters game, and Punch-Out!!! is dope

Nhex, Thursday, 6 August 2009 02:00 (sixteen years ago)

It's so funny because all fo the fucking games media was whinign about how too much shit comes out in the autumn and some of the also-rans should move to the next quarter but then when a bunch do (and by my count there are now about 4 must-gets for the autumn and another 4 for Q1 '10) they complain that all of the games are moving to 2010. If I had a game I wouldn't put it against Modern Warfare 2 and a game that says Halo 3 on the box. That's just stupid. Plus why would Ubisoft put Conviction up against Asscreed 2?

The controls are janky (Will M.), Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:58 (sixteen years ago)

I'd hardly call Infamous, Prototype, or Red Faction "generic" action titles. They're each pretty unique in their own ways. None of them are killer apps or anything, but they're all totally solid rentals.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 6 August 2009 17:17 (sixteen years ago)

I was slightly turned off by generic angry white bald rage dudes. BALD with RAAAGE!!! Why they are so? (but I'll probably never get a chance to play them anyway)

xpost But if this is only happening because of the holiday overflow it doesn't really solve the problem of too much glut (hell the major RB/GH releases are early Sept this year), though it does help the early winter months which is a plus. It's gotten to the point where I'm not super interested in much this winter besides L4D2. (If we count the next 2 months I am curious about Batman and Beatles RB) Spring '10 looks more interesting (Bioshock 2, Heavy Rain, Starcraft 2).

Nhex, Thursday, 6 August 2009 23:35 (sixteen years ago)

I will say that it feels like there's a distinct lack of gap-filling titles this year - like, last year there was Mirror's Edge and Valkyria Chronicles and Disgaea 3 and even Yakuza 2 and so on to vie for the attention of people who weren't so interested in the major titles (by which I mean folks who had either exhausted the blockbusters already or who just didn't give a shit in the first place). of course, all those titles went wood in the hood and MW2 and Rock Band Beatles are maybe the two games with the most mass-market appeal in history so I guess that makes sense.

just fuckin' give me scribblenauts already

im a fucking unicorn you douchebags (forksclovetofu), Friday, 7 August 2009 05:37 (sixteen years ago)

I feel like there's plenty of stuff. I'm not sure what you guys are arguing... I feel like I'd be busy even if no new games came out between now and the end of the year - plenty more to get out of Street Fighter, BlazBlue, Marvel vs. Capcom, King of Fighters, Garou (and that's just fighters). There's also the evergreens like Team Fortress 2, Trackmania, Wipeout HD, and maybe Left 4 Dead (keep meaning to play more of that + new content shortly).

New releases between now and the end of the year vying for my time will certainly include CoD:mw2, Trials HD, Pixel Junk Shooter, Forza 3, FIFA 10, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Murasama, Raiden IV, Illvelo and Tekken 6. That's way more than enough for me (and I'm sure there will be a few surprises to end up catching my attention too). I'm definitely glad to see some stuff get pushed out to maybe avoid a complete clusterfuck. Yes - hopefully some of those pushed titles will get released throughout the year and not all between Jan. 1st and April 15th...

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 7 August 2009 06:02 (sixteen years ago)

I dont know maybe our argument is for more AAA titles coming out at a time frame thats not the holidays. I think the game companies would benefit from it as well as the consumer. Lots of good games just get buried. I remember Little Big Planet selling very poorly last year. If that game came out at any other time it would have probably seen more light of day. It just strikes me that alot of the marketing folks at the big publishers are just lazy.

mayor jingleberries, Friday, 7 August 2009 17:13 (sixteen years ago)

two months pass...

Starting to really feel the clusterfuck now. Definitely too much coming out I want, combined with having less available $$$ & time (time because I already have enough games to fill up my time and that I'm still enjoying and or have yet to finish), but they just keep coming). Skipping games left and right that look good. Next week's DJ Hero + Forza is pretty much going to kill me. Trying to scrounge up the cash for A Boy and His Blob...

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 22 October 2009 21:07 (sixteen years ago)

Got Uncharted 2 and MGS IV (waaay late on this one) and between that, work, and applying to law school... I have no idea how I can even consider the new Mario Brothers Wii, some racing games, or anything else. COD-MW2 is going to take some real willpower to avoid....

throwbookatface (skygreenleopard), Thursday, 22 October 2009 22:31 (sixteen years ago)

trying to hold back from getting borderlands but self control is slipping - so much other older shit i havent grabbed yet (arkham asylum, res evil 5, etc.)

Don Quishote (jjjusten), Thursday, 22 October 2009 22:32 (sixteen years ago)

is borderlands an mmo, or?

i'm pretty restrained when it comes to buying games 'cause i know i don't have much time, and i hate having them sit around unplayed (same for books & movies). probably going to go for left4dead 2 and then chill out until alien vs predator comes out.

Ømår Littel (Jordan), Thursday, 22 October 2009 22:46 (sixteen years ago)

borderlands is the FPS/RPG xover post apocalyptic thing that just came out and has 4 player coop and other neat shiny things that peeps are raving about. supposed to be a little WOW grindy at times, but def not a mmo

Don Quishote (jjjusten), Thursday, 22 October 2009 22:49 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, Uncharted and Borderlands are both two I had to skip because of time/money, but wish I could play them. Both look great, but on the other hand - I feel like the new Call of Duty will satisfy my shooting people in the face needs for the next few months, at least. I'm trying to learn your restraint Jordan (you should see the disgusting piles of unread books filling up my apartment).

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 22 October 2009 22:53 (sixteen years ago)

What other big stuff is coming out this season? I haven't heard of anything that had me as excited as Fallout 3 last year. (Is that Dragon Age bioware thing going to be great?)

Nhex, Friday, 23 October 2009 03:50 (sixteen years ago)

slocki - it bums me out a little - there's just way too many games coming out right now. I couldn't resist picking up FIFA this week though. Next week there's two expensive games I can't resist either, both of which I expect to put a ton of time into though and November has at least three games there's no way I'm skipping (NSMB WII, MW2 and Mushihimesama-Futari). It's overload even for me. I can't believe a couple of months ago people were actually complaining about games getting pushed out till next year! I don't know if it's related to where we're at in the development cycle for this generation of consoles and handhelds, but not only is there too much coming out, but there's too much good stuff. The early months of 2010 already look just as deadly. It seems like there's no choice but to skip more and more worthwhile, possibly great games. I don't feel the same about current movies, books or even music, which is maybe kind of crazy...

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 23 October 2009 04:25 (sixteen years ago)

the only games that really interest me are are NSMB wii which might end up being too easy and Dragon Age Origins which might have too much emphasis on cinematics and early game story and end up lacking in end game story and gameplay.

NSMB Wii just got a 7 in EDGE which is unexpected

coz (webinar), Friday, 23 October 2009 15:23 (sixteen years ago)

That's a little surprising, though a 7 isn't exactly bad from Edge. What do they say?

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 23 October 2009 15:59 (sixteen years ago)

dunno, I just saw it posted on EG; v.surprising given how good the game looks in recent previews and EDGE's mario love

coz (webinar), Friday, 23 October 2009 16:03 (sixteen years ago)

I wonder if they knock it for not having online multiplayer - I know I would

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 23 October 2009 16:59 (sixteen years ago)

that wouldn't bother me so much w/a wii game; I tend to think of it as a local multiplayer console

I fully expect NSMB wii to review very well, and sell very very well

coz (webinar), Friday, 23 October 2009 17:09 (sixteen years ago)

the new GTA disc got a 9; I'm really looking forward to finally playing TLAD and apparently the new 'DLC' has a vice city radio station :D

EDGE points, c&p from GAF:

+Level design is great. Stands shoulder-to-shoulder with SMW, SMB, and SMB 3.
+Koopa Kids

-Music kinda sucks.
-Graphics and art style could have been a lot better.
-No online.
-Characters aren't unique from each other, other than how they appear.
-No Mii support.
-Not a lot of voice acting.
-No Motion plus support.
-Story is really basic and not very good.

coz (webinar), Saturday, 24 October 2009 11:31 (sixteen years ago)

See, I thought it would be something like that, a bunch of nitpicky stuff, mostly based on unreal expectations. I mean, WHAT THE FUCK(!), they knock a mario game for not having mii support, a lot of voice acting, no motion plus and a basic story?!? LOL
