Aw c'mon, NO ONE watched this? It's the cinematic(read: completely rendered) trailer to Lego Universe
― kingfish, Wednesday, 13 January 2010 07:36 (sixteen years ago)
Sorry, I'm VERY EXCITED, just forgot to say so, heh.
― JimD, Wednesday, 13 January 2010 12:55 (sixteen years ago)
Not really a Lego multiplayer experience unless other people can steal your best bricks without asking and they're myyyyyy bricks from myyyyyy space sets muuuuuuuuuuuuuuum!!!

― Nhex, Wednesday, 13 January 2010 13:04 (sixteen years ago)
Lego World of Warcraft with different themed areas?
― an executive by day and a wild man by night (snoball), Wednesday, 13 January 2010 13:42 (sixteen years ago)
yeah i don't like the way the trailer shows it like wow, lego is all about creating stuff not battles and wars
― bracken free ditch (Ste), Wednesday, 13 January 2010 13:45 (sixteen years ago)
Lego gave up the whole "no war toys" thing a long time ago. Unfortunately it doesn't look like you can build large structures, which would surely be a big draw, like "build far bigger structures than you ever could in real life". They really need to push the virtual aspect of it, allowing things that aren't physically possible with real Lego bricks because of issues like block strength. I would hope that the in-game items the trailer shows being "built" are things you can design yourself, rather than "pay for X number of Lego Universe Credits using real world money, then you can pay Y credits to 'build' this cool race car!".

Some answers here:

Sounds like there'll be auto, modular and brick-by-brick building.

blue classic space dude
You young whippersnapper! I remember when space dudes were only available in red and white! (geek confession: I made the red ones pilots and the white ones navigators/scientists/buggy drivers. Then when I got two yellow space dudes I made them mechanics...)
― an executive by day and a wild man by night (snoball), Thursday, 14 January 2010 09:18 (sixteen years ago)
I also had the red/white pair. It wasn't until you saw the yellow guys that you knew they must be special.
One of the best Christmas gifts I ever got growing up:

And that's another thing. Lego sets used to be in print for multiple years, not thing less-than-12-months-shit
― kingfish, Thursday, 14 January 2010 11:08 (sixteen years ago)
I HAD THAT MODEL TOO!
and i still have those transparent yellow window sections in my boxes.

not thing this
― kingfish, Thursday, 14 January 2010 11:22 (sixteen years ago)
That looks familiar but I don't remember having a full set of giant wheels kicking around my Lego collection, so I guess I had a smaller buggy from the same era of space kits.
I wonder if the red spaceguys were Soviet spaceguys. Or were they on the same model originally?

Oh, sorry guys, got here from Site New Answers, I thought this was the ILE lego prattle thread and not ILG. Casual gamer is ashamed, gets coat. Carry on!
― canna kirk (a passing spacecadet), Thursday, 14 January 2010 11:29 (sixteen years ago)
Don't worry, all Lego are welcome here.
― kingfish, Thursday, 14 January 2010 20:53 (sixteen years ago)
this could be similar to the building element from second life, if they are including scripting on objects. But watching those clips there was a lot of building which was just some auto-animated stuff like from the lego vid games.
― bracken free ditch (Ste), Friday, 15 January 2010 11:56 (sixteen years ago)
I'm curious to see how they factor in the gaming element for an older audience. Lego the company survives now since the Adult Fan of Lego types are legion.
The gamedevs say it's aimed at male children, but I'm wondering if that's b/c they haven't put in any of the egregiously gendered "girl's lego" sets yet, like Belville.

Beta sign-up for Lego Universe is open. This could be entertaining.

kingfish, did you manage to have a go at the beta?
this interests me, but i'm really reluctant to pay the monthly subscription fee. anyone else got it yet?

I did. Played it for months. Had a lot of fun, but i'm not sure where you'd go after reaching a certain plateau...

I think that was already covered in another thread, lols thread?
― Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Wednesday, 3 June 2015 11:29 (ten years ago)
After watching a few vids, game seems to lack ability to create anything truly unique. It's all pre built kits and stuff, you just aim where you want them built and done.
